Daedra?[edit]

The Ash guardian seems too much like an atronach. Is there such thing as an Ash Atronach? should it be labeled as an elemental daedra? --Winch1990 (talk) 08:05, 13 December 2012 (GMT)

The dlc2AshGuardianRace is indeed called "Storm Atronach" internally. It looks like they used the Atronach race as a basis and customized it for the Ash Guardians. And the race has the ActorTypeDaedra keyword, so I guess it's type is Daedra. --Alfwyn (talk) 11:54, 13 December 2012 (GMT)
No, I highly doubt they're daedra, whatever the game files might suggest. They seem to be a type of golem. —Legoless (talk) 18:18, 13 December 2012 (GMT)

() Has anybody tried using a powerful Banish Daedra effect against one to see if it works?64.12.116.144 02:01, 28 December 2012 (GMT)

Another problem with considering it an elemental daedra is that ash isn't an element in that sense, while fire, frost, and electricity are. If ash were an element, one would expect to see a whole subsection of ash-related perks in one of the Destruction Magic perk trees. 174.6.51.17 12:12, 17 March 2013 (GMT)
I tried, it doesn't--68.230.66.230 12:53, 17 March 2013 (GMT)
This summon is worthless: Bugs out way too often. 173.209.103.134 17:04, 24 March 2013 (GMT)
According to Shivering Isles, flesh is an element, but there is no flesh branch of the Destruction tree, so that's not evidence. 94.195.48.203 03:17, 11 May 2013 (GMT)
Hitting the hostile ash guardian with an enchanted weapon with powerful Banish Daedra effect will not instantly kill it, but the ash guardian will flee indefinitely.--96.245.84.120 22:33, 23 October 2021 (UTC)

They don't benefit from atronach perks, they're not called atronachs, and they seem to have the same non-daedric origin as the ash-spawn. Should it be mentioned that you can summon it in addition to thralls? I dunno if it works with regular summons but my flame thralls don't vanish when I conjure ash guardians, which makes it a pretty powerful spell for a conjurer. It also doesn't work like other conjuration spells that are cast on yourself which makes it useful for a mage with spell absorption, since you won't absorb and negate the spell. 108.45.100.122 15:35, 21 October 2013 (GMT)

I summoned a Dremora Lord when an Ash Guardian was active with no problem. Robinwitch1 (talk) 07:51, 8 December 2013 (GMT)

They prevent the Gauldur Amulet from being reforged.[edit]

If you lose your patience with being bounced around the chamber by the three jerk brothers and conjure an ash guardian to keep them busy, Gauldur will not reforge the amulet while the ash guardian is still alive. If it survives the battle, you'll just have to kill it yourself, or delete it in console. Robinwitch1 (talk) 07:48, 8 December 2013 (GMT)

In the wild?[edit]

The page lists "Solstheim (Ashlands)" as one of the locations where they appear. I have never seen one outside of the two related quests, though. Do they actually appear in the wild? --Ethruvisil (talk) 03:57, 22 March 2020 (GMT)

It is unlikely they can be encountered in the wild. I have been roaming Solstheim for 70+ hours and have never seen a wild Ash Guardian. Werewolfvampirre (talk) 19:21, 22 March 2020 (GMT)

Misleading[edit]

One of the lines states the following: "They do not occupy a conjuration slot and can be summoned in addition to other conjured allies." Is this true? I know that the Ash Guardians that are summoned without a heartstone don't take up a slot, but one summoned with a heartstone do take up a slot and replace another summon/raised thing (without the Twin Souls perk). Prehaps it should state "Ash Guardians summoned without a heartstone do not take up a slot, but are hostile." Werewolfvampirre (talk) 19:53, 22 March 2020 (GMT)
