SkyrimTAG:Roaming Monsters
The wilds of Skyrim are a dangerous place, with Roaming Monsters wandering the roads that can severely hinder your progress.. During the game, different Events and Quests will force you to place Roaming Monster tokens on the board. Trying to move through a Roaming Monster will end your movement on that space and force you to fight it as your action for the turn. If a Roaming Monster moves onto your space, you cannot move and have to fight it during your turn.
When facing a Roaming Monster, draw the appropriate card from the Numbered deck to fight. After resolving the encounter, either by combat or by escaping, you can move to any adjacent space, as long as there are no Roaming Monster tokens there. The Roaming Monster will be removed from the board, and its card placed back in the deck.
Roaming Monsters generally appear and move as a result of an Event or Quest card. Depending on the situation, these enemies can either chase you or try to destroy a Stronghold. There are two types of Roaming Monster movement:
- Move towards the closest Stronghold: The Roaming Monster moves towards the closest Stronghold. If there are two or more Strongholds at the same distance, the Starting Player can decide what the enemy's target is. Roaming Monsters do not move towards Strongholds that are already Rioting.
- Move towards a player: The Roaming Monster moves towards either the closest player or the Starting Player. If two players are at the same distance, the Starting Player can decide who the enemy's target is. If the Roaming Monster is following the Starting Player and they are not on the board, the Roaming Monster won't move.
Roaming Monsters will only move 1 space at a time.
Encounters[edit]
Most Roaming Monsters come in a set of 6 tokens. Some Roaming Monster tokens have two different encounters, one on each side of the token, one being harder than the other. When placing one of these tokens on the board, flip the token like a coin to randomly determine which side will be used.
