List of Merchants[edit]

Could anyone make a list of what spell merchants to visit to get each of the spell effects, for spellmaking purposes? Probably only the cheapest/lowest skill requirement source would be necessary. — Unsigned comment by ‎Marvin01 (talkcontribs) at 14:03 on 26 May 2006

Magic Shielding Effects[edit]

Does anyone have any clarification for the magic shielding effects? In particular, things like Resist Magic, Reflect Spell, Spell Absorption, Resist Elemental, Reflect Damage, Resist Normal Weapons, Shield, and Elemental Shield behaviors are not clear. Does a 50% in any of those effects mean "50% chance it works" or "it always blocks/reflects/absorbs 50% of the damage," or something else? And how do they stack? If you have 100% Absorb and 100% Reflect, which one "wins?" Or do both effects work?

As a starter, I think Shield and Elemental Shield both add X points of armor, up to your limit of 85. Elemental shield also adds the Resist Element effect, but I'm not sure if that's an X% reduction or an X% chance to avoid damage completely. — Unsigned comment by ‎Raygundan (talkcontribs) at 19:04 on 21 June 2006

Modified Base Costs[edit]

I've changed the base costs for Feather (from 0.21 to 0.01) and for Open (from 4.3 to 6.45). I don't have access to the CS, but based on the actual magicka costs of spells in the game, the base costs of these effects have to be pretty close to the values I've filled in.--Nephele 01:01, 28 June 2006 (EDT)

The base costs in the editor are 0.01 for Feather and 4.3 for Open - good work.--Tennessee Ernie Ford 01:59, 28 June 2006 (EDT)
OK, I unfixed the cost of open... it's back to 4.3 in the table. Thanks for checking those for me.--Nephele 13:34, 29 June 2006 (EDT)
One more cost I've unilaterally changed: Frenzy from 0.4 to 0.04. Should be the last one.--Nephele 12:47, 1 July 2006 (EDT)

Feather Effect[edit]

I disagree with the Phrase "Reduces target's encumbrance". In Morrowind, it was that way, but in Oblivion it raises the max weight you can carry. f.E. before Feather 50pts it's 200/400, with Feather 50pts active it's 200/450.. In Morrowind it was 150/400 with Feather, but they changed it. -- Sooker 16:14, 15 September 2006 (EDT)

Actually, all they changed was how the effect is displayed, but internally it's still being treated the same way. See Oblivion:Feather#Bug for details on what I mean. So to the extent that the two descriptions differ, reduce encumbrance is more accurate (because the effect never allows your encumbrance to be reduced below zero). --Nephele 16:25, 15 September 2006 (EDT)
I see, this is interesting. Yes, I agree, sorry for (shortly) having changed it, but it appeared wrong to me. -- Sooker 16:33, 15 September 2006 (EDT)

Mehrunes Dagger[edit]

isnt this effect the one that is used on the dagger? the daedric banishin effect? — Unsigned comment by 189.182.90.157 (talk) at 21:42 on 19 January 2010

No, the Daedric Banishing effect is a script effect. The effect described here doesn't appear in the game, as hasn't really been tested. --Timenn-<talk> 12:02, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Disease/Poison Info[edit]

Do any spells use this? Could this be used to give diseases to NPCs? StTheo 13:48, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
