The Order Castle

The Order Castle is the new home of the Order of the Dragon, a castle in the Jerall Mountains east of Bruma. A long stone bridge leads across a ravine to just shy of the castle walls; a drawbridge covers the rest of the gap. A portcullis grants access to the outer bailey, which holds the Armory, Guard Room, and Mess Hall. A second drawbridge grants access to the inner courtyard and the main keep, which has the Kitchen, Library, and Palace; a gate in the west wall leads outside to a separate area holding the Chapel, a small graveyard, and some tents. Note that until the castle is rebuilt, all the outbuildings are simply named "House" and have no contents of note, beyond a few stray potions.

Related Quests[edit]

Exterior[edit]

  • The exterior is located at coordinates: Tamriel 17,36. A second map marker is located at Tamriel 18,36.
  • This location's map marker is named Order Castle - Outer Bridge. The second marker is named Order Castle - Inner Courtyard.

Order Castle: Armory[edit]

This two-story building is located in the outer bailey. The lower floor is divided into two rooms split by an arch; the first is a waiting room where people can sit and wait for their weapons or armor to be attended to; the second is used for storage. A set of stairs in the second room leads to the upper floor, which only covers the second room. This area has some weapon racks, a stand for staves, chests for storage, and some blades laid out on a table.

Order Castle: Catacombs[edit]

The entrance to the catacombs is located below the main keep, in the inner courtyard; a passage slopes down to a door. The catacombs are uninhabited and (despite the name) fairly easy to navigate, though you have to be careful not to fall off the ledge in a few areas. The main thing of note here is the Magnificent Painting located in a storeroom. The passage at the far end of the catacombs leads to the Ice Caves.

Order Castle: Chapel[edit]

The chapel is a small building located in a separate area outside of the castle, accessible only through a gate in the inner courtyard. An aisle lined with benches leads up to an altar, which conceals an entrance to the Order's Crypt.

Order Castle: Guard Room[edit]

This is a two-story square tower located in the outer bailey. The lower floor is a ready room - racks of weapons sit against the walls, and there's a table and chair for the duty officer to keep logs. A ladder leads up to the second floor, which is used for storage; besides a pile of crates and numerous cobwebs, it has nothing of interest.

Order Castle: Guards' Quarters[edit]

This is a three-story building that sits against the southern wall of the inner courtyard. It is split into two halves with arches connecting each half, and stairs between each floor. The door opens into a large room used as a smithy; it has a forge, racks for weapons and armor, and a workbench. The rest of the bottom floor is used for storage. The second floor is a practice area (one half) and armory (the other half). Both halves of the third floor are a barracks for the guards.

Order Castle: Kitchen[edit]

A short set of steps leads down to the kitchen, which is partially sunken into the ground. The door opens into a hall; an archway leads to the kitchen proper, where the food is made, and a ladder here leads to the attic, which is used for storage. The hall leads around to a set of steps going to the lower level, which has dry-goods storage, a table for the cooks to eat, and a room given over to a large cell.

Order Castle: Mess Hall[edit]

As the name suggests, this is where the guards come to eat. This is a single large room with a two long tables down the middle, with benches for the people to sit. A rack for weapons stands near the door, and various shelves and cupboards for food and other items are placed against the far wall.

Order Castle: Library[edit]

This is a small building located on the upper level of the inner courtyard, along the west wall. It is one large, open room. Bookshelves run along two walls, and a set of shelves along the back wall holds more books, objets d'art, and other miscellany. There is a small table for research, and several sets of chairs for people to sit and talk or read books.

Order Castle: Palace[edit]

This is the main part of the inner keep, and occupies five floors - three aboveground, and a basement and subbasement, laid out in a cross shape. The main floor is dominated by a long dining table lined with enough chairs to seat thirty people. The western alcove holds a fireplace, bookshelf, and a stool and table. A set of stairs winds down to the basements, which are used for wine storage, and another leads up to the second floor.

The second floor has a simply appointed bedroom for the castle's lord, a guard room with access to the parapets, and a central room with a cupboard and set of shelves.

The third floor is the throne room; a hallway leads to a gate sealing off the room when the lord isn't in attendance. The room has a small throne on a low dais flanked by twin suits of armor, chairs and benches against the wall for retainers and petitioners to sit, and a desk to one side for the clerk or lord to do paperwork. Two massive chests sit in an alcove and are safe to use for storage.
