Dangerously close seemed the breath of the black horse, whose red eyes touched the deepest insides of Hinrich's heart. He seemed almost to choke it, but he could not stir, let alone defend himself. The stallion snorted into his face; the breath was cold as the quietest night. Suddenly it reared up in a cruel neighing and began to engage Hinrich with its front hooves. He was thrown to the ground and he awoke from his hypnotic state. The stallion was bouncing his hooves on Hinrich's body for the third time before he really noticed what was going on. His armor had saved him from any harm and so he rolled with all the force at his disposal and, standing, swung to the side and avoided the black horse's attacks. The weight of the armor made him slow indeed, but it also protected him from further damage, which the stallion would have caused without any problem, even if he had been nimble as a fish.

He held up his hands as if to surrender, but that, of course, didn't interest the black stallion a bit. It attacked Hinrich with all its cruelty. Hinrich, however, grabbed the horse's neck at the right moment and pulled with all his weight, which the armor gave him, to the ground. The stallion kicked and kicked his legs and tried to free himself from Hinrich's grasp, but it was in vain. Hinrich the Lion tied the black stallion's hooves together with a rope and so triumphed over the evil beast.
