Ria Silmane and Jagar Tharn contacting the Eternal Champion

Both of these characters speak to Arena's player-character in cutscenes at several points in this game [before/after collecting each piece of the Staff of Chaos]. Wouldn't their methods of long-distance communicating - seeing as they're both mages and aren't physically near the player for the majority of the game - count as a form of Telepathy?
