Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Talk to a Merchant or an Innkeeper.
  2. Head inside your employer's residence in town before 21:00.
  3. Guard your employer until midnight and fight off any intruders.
  4. Talk to your employer within the time limit and collect your reward.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

Your employer will be holed up somewhere in the house while you guard it
The assassins will come for you first

Home Invasion[edit]

Speak to a merchant or innkeeper, who says:

"(Player's name), I fear for my very life. Will you protect me? (Villain's class)s have threatened to kill me tonight because I have refused to sell my land. I can pay you (random gold) gold."

or

"You find me in desperate straits, my dear (player's race). I have received word from some (town) thugs that they intend to ransack my house tonight. I don't suppose you'd be available to do a little creative facial rearrangement on these fellows?"

Accept[edit]

The merchant or innkeeper goes on:

"Thank you and bless you! They will strike at (residence) in the three hours before midnight. Be there and wait with me for that time. Once they have been defeated, I will be safe once again."

Decline[edit]

The merchant or innkeeper answers:

"Fear not for my safety, (player's name). I shall find another protector...somehow."

Guarding the Home[edit]

Head to your employer's residence before 21:00. Ask around until someone points you toward it. Upon entering the residence, the following message pops up:

This must be the place. It fits the description (employer's name) gave you.

Wait until the villains show up; you can loiter to make time pass faster. If the attackers show up, there will be two of them. Upon being hit for the first time, one shouts:

"This is not your problem, stranger. Leave (employer's name) to us or we will cut you down where you stand!"

Kill the invading assassins and loot the corpses, then wait until it is past midnight. Again, you can loiter to kill time. Find your employer somewhere within the house for your reward.

Reward[edit]

Speak to your employer at home, and be told:

"You have saved my life, (player's first name). I will gladly pay you our agreed upon amount."

Reputation Gain/Loss[edit]

A successfully completed quest results in a reputation gain according to the table below.

Faction/Person Reputation Gain
Questgiver's faction +5
Questgiver's associated factions +2

A failed quest (time limit expired) results in a reputation loss according to the table below.

Faction/Person Reputation Gain
Questgiver's faction -2
Questgiver's associated factions -1

Enemies[edit]

  • Two Assassins (25% chance) once you enter your employer's house between 21:00 and 00:00

Notes[edit]

  • If the assassins don't show up until midnight, and this occurs with a 75% chance, the quest can not be completed successfully since it requires the death of both assassins. You can either accept this circumstance and leave, or reload a save before you entered your employer's house and keep trying until the assassins have shown up.

Additional Dialogue[edit]

After you have accepted this quest, NPCs may say when asked for any news:

"(Employer's name) is in trouble with the Thieves Guild. I hear they are going to rough (him/her) up."

If you fail the quest, NPCs may say any of the following when asked for any news:

"I saw (employer's name) recently. (He/She) was beaten up by some thugs."

If you successfully complete the quest, NPCs may say when asked for any news:

"Aren't you the (player's race) that chased off those thugs that tried to beat up (employer's name)?

If you successfully completed the quest, the quest giver may say to you:

"I still remember what you did for me (player's first name). Chasing off those thugs leaves me in your debt."

If you failed the quest, the quest giver will say to you:

"I still have the scars from when those thugs found me. I hired you to protect me and you blew it. Get away from me."
