Houses are buildings acting as the residence for the general populace of the people in Tamriel. In Arena, they behave as small dungeons with loot, a random chance for you to get attacked by monsters and allowing you to rest without paying as you would need to with inns.

Houses are always locked and roaming NPCs don't spawn inside. Some entrance doors are blocked by walls, hedges or other objects, making the house inaccessible. They can in theory be accessed by using the spell Passwall; however, when leaving the house, the blocking object will cause you to become stuck.

Houses are much less likely to contain loot than Temples, Equipment Stores, or Mages Guilds, which can also be broken into at night. On the other hand, house layouts (particularly their beds and their multiple floors) make it easier to handle or farm the monsters inside. House monsters appear to spawn in lower quantities than their Mages Guild counterparts.
