Welcome![edit]

Hello Christylynn78! Welcome to UESPWiki! It's always good to have new members. If you would like to help improve any of our pages, you may want to take a look at the following links:

If you would like to spice up your userpage, click here for a list of userboxes you can use, including a guide to making your own.

When you're editing, it's always a good idea to leave edit summaries to explain the changes you have made to a particular page, and remember to sign your talk page posts with four tildes ~~~~. Also, the "show preview" button is a great way to view the changes you've made so far without actually saving the page (our patrollers really appreciate it!).

Feel free to practice editing in the sandbox or discuss the games in the forums. If you need any help, don't hesitate to contact one of our mentors. Have fun! ~ Shuryard (talk) 19:21, 27 February 2015 (GMT)

User Image[edit]

Hi Christylynn78, you've recently uploaded User-Christylynn78-Onmund MinusHood.bmp. The image does not meet UESPWiki's image standards and will not be used on any articles. However, you're free to embed it on your user page. If you don't want to use the image, it will eventually be proposed for deletion. --Holomay (talk) 10:09, 2 March 2015 (GMT)

I recently noticed that, when uploading an image, BMP is listed as an "allowed file type" although the Image Standards (near the END of the Images Help Page) specifically state NOT to use this image type. Also, it would help if the aspect ratio thing was noted on the upload page (it's just a single line), or at least include a link directly to the "Image Standards" section of the help page. I added the line "See the Image Standards section below for more details" to the top section of the Images Help page so that this might direct users to this section BEFORE uploading (as the instructions to upload are currently BEFORE the standards details).
Thank you! --Christylynn78 (talk) 16:42, 2 March 2015 (GMT)
Hey Christylynn78, first and foremost: Don't let the discussion about the image discourage you and and keep you from future contributions to the wiki! :) Unfortunately, as your first edit you have chosen to update an image that was debatable in the first place. As Dwarfmp has pointed out here, the image of Onmund without a hood should probably not even exist. In the summary it is noted that the hood was removed via console, and our images should generally illustrate what actually can be experienced in-game. So the main issue about your new image of Onmund is not a technical one (aspect ratio, file type etc.), but one regarding the image's content. As I wrote above, it's no problem if you want to embed the image as a user image on your own user page, add a comment about its subject, how it was taken etc. However, I don't see a point in embedding it on Onmund's article - why do you think that an image of Onmund wearing a Circlet of Minor Illusion should be added? Which in-game situation is the image supposed to represent? --Holomay (talk) 11:13, 3 March 2015 (GMT)

Editing Issues[edit]

There does not appear to be a "reply" option, so I'm hoping I'm posting this in the right place (also posted on image discussion).

I'm attempting to post an updated image (I worked really hard getting this screenshot and would prefer that it not just disappear) but the "file name does not match" issue is not allowing me to upload the JPG instead of BMP (per regulations). I've requested a rename, hopefully that will go through before the file is completely deleted.

I noticed that BMP is actually listed as an "allowed file type" although the Image Standards (near the END of the Images Help Page) specifically state NOT to use this image type. When originally uploading the image, I HAD to post a BMP because of the "file name does not match" issue, so apparently the previous image posted had been allowed as a BMP. Also, it would help if the aspect ratio thing was noted on the upload page (it's just a single line), or at least include a link directly to the "Image Standards" section of the help page. I added a line to "See the Image Standards section" to the top of the Images Help page in the hope that this might help prevent others from making the same error. — Unsigned comment by Christylynn78 (talkcontribs) at 16:33 on 2 March 2015

To replace a BMP with a JPG, you will have to upload the file as a new image, as existing images cannot be replaced with files of a different type. In this instance, I would assume a replacement would be called File:User-Christylynn78-Onmund MinusHood.jpg (you can click here to upload your JPG directly to that name). Then the BMP version could be deleted, but the JPG version would still exist. I agree with what you say about the "allowed file type" list not matching the image guidelines, and the aspect ratio not being mentioned on the upload page; I will bring this up with an admin and see if they can be changed.
On a final note, the best place to post a reply is directly under the message you are replying to, which can be done by clicking 'Edit' on the header line of the message you wish to reply to. Hope this helps! --Enodoc (talk) 09:57, 3 March 2015 (GMT)
