Bastardy is a child conceived outside the bounds of matrimony. Bastards are generally looked down upon and commonly referred to in a variety of cusses. As a rule, royal bastards do not have right to inheritance from their parent, but may inherit in the absence of other heirs, or via some declaration of legitimacy.

Historical Cases[edit]

  • Olmgerd the Outlaw was the bastard son of King Harald.[1][2]
  • Before her coronation Queen Freydis of Windhelm was accused of being illegitimate by her rival, King Svartr of Solitude.[3]
  • Artan Imbel II, Faren Imbel II, Corben Imbel II, were the bastard sons of Corben Imbel I.[4]
  • Emmeg Gro-Kayra was believed to be a bastard son.[5]
  • The Lucky Old Lady was said to have been the illegitimate daughter of a prostitute in Bravil.[6]
  • Sorondil was the bastard son of High Kinlord Rilis XII of Firsthold and a woman named Elanwe.
  • Historical fiction accuses Potema Septim of falsified evidence of her son in-law actually being a bastard. [the wolf queen]

  • Uriel IV was accused of being an illegitimate child, due to his parents only being consorts. [brief history]
  • The supposedly fictional character Aveet Videspreed of Daggerfall from the play Fools' Ebony speculated over herself actually being bastard, even though she inherited the title of Contessa and her family's surname.
  • Calaxes was the bastard son of Uriel VII. [words and philosophy]
  • Martin was the bastard son of Uriel VII. [oblivion] However, upon his death, the Emperor named him his successor, citing Martin as his "secret son."
