About me[edit]

Shalimain Andrano, alchemist extraordinaire, is at your service.

I discovered the Elder Scrolls series through Skyrim in 2011 and played over 500 hours since then — two thirds of which were played before attempting to finish the main quest. I tried playing Daggerfall and Oblivion a few times without getting really into them, but Morrowind did it for me: I've never been this into TES lore before and it's great.
To be fair, I'm not sure if I'll play Skyrim again but I don't intend to poop all over it either, it's a great game that brought many new fans to the series. I'm just obsessed with Morrowind.

OpenMW and TES3MP[edit]

I play with OpenMW and highly recommend trying out TES3MP (which requires OpenMW). It's a lot of fun and can also be decent way to learn the game since you get to ask questions as you go. It's probably better to try playing solo before to get familiar with the game, although I've met several people who discovered the game through multiplayer.

Tips[edit]

Things I wish I learned sooner!

  • If your fatigue is depleted, you'll miss all the time and be at risk of getting knocked out. Switch to walking before fights or stock up on Restore Fatigue potions.
  • You can very easily get into quest conflicts and lose access to questline, the game will only warn you if you kill an essential NPC. Although some would argue that these conflicts enhance immersion, and are no big deal since you will eventually make another character.
  • You don't have to take a level if you don't have the right attribute multipliers, you can just press Escape and keep that level for later, once you've had some training.
  • Alchemy is overpowered. You can't quite use it to get OP enchantments like in Skyrim, but you can use a cycle of intelligence potions to make increasingly powerful potions. It's also a great way to make money early on by buying cheap restocked ingredients and selling potions for a profit.
  • Some TES3MP servers will kick you for spamming potions.
  • The Atronach sign isn't that good, especially in multiplayer. It's far from being the worst sign, but magicka potions are expensive.
  • The Lady sign is arguably the most useful: +20 END +20 PER.
  • This character creation guide (unable to add external link) is pretty decent. Although I'll add a caveat: Setting your weapon as your minor skill is a terrible idea if you don't have a racial bonus for it, as you will miss most attacks until you have a skill level of 50.
  • You can increase difficulty beyond 100 by editing settings.cfg (found in "Documents\My Games\OpenMW\settings.cfg"). This is useful if you get too powerful and would like some challenge. There are also a plethora of mods that change balance but I haven't touched those yet.
  • If you want to be a vampire, I recommend being prepared to be hated by everyone and therefore acquire every spell effect you might possibly need later. Also, you can't become a vampire after you get cured of Corpus. At least, I didn't manage it even with over 150% Weakness to Common Disease. Plan well or use mods. I ended up getting Vampire Char Gen and Vampire Concealment (Unable to add external link. Warning, website uses Flash).
