The Heiruna Doll

The Heiruna Doll is a cursed toy which holds the soul of the mage Heiruna who was gotten the better of by the local Dragon Cult in Dragonhome. She claims that she was a scholar who threatened to expose the existence of the resurgent cult to the authorities.

When you come across her, she will ask for your assistance to regain her body. Heiruna can be found on the road south of Dragonhome in the basket of the dead Menehl Laggard or mounted on a pole at the entrance to Dragonhome.

Quest-Related Events[edit]

As you approach the strange doll, you may hear it "You! Down here, I have need of your assistance!". Greet the doll and it will talk back, find out what it wants.

"You there! Don't run off screaming, there's a perfectly reasonable explanation for this.
It's rather humiliating, but my soul is trapped inside this ludicrous child's toy. I need someone with a corporeal form to help return me to my body."
How did you get trapped inside a doll?
"These damnable cultists bested me! The witless fools believe they can summon a Dragon and return the Dragon Cult to prominence. Ha!
One of their mages bound my soul to this doll and left me to spend eternity as this repulsively adorable plaything."
Is there a way to release you?
"But of course!
They stripped me of my belongings before turning me into this. If three of my things are placed upon a summoning altar, the spell will break. I need someone to take me to their hideout, a place called Dragonhome, and do this for me."
I'll travel to Dragonhome and find your belongings.

After agreeing to help Heiruna will first want you to put her in your pack. However, you can ask her some questions beforehand.

"The Dragon Cult's lair, Dragonhome, is further west, as is the altar where you'll place my belongings. You'll need to put me inside your pack so I can direct you and offer guidance.
Don't make a fuss of it."
Tell me more about the Dragon Cult.
"Ugh. As if they have any claim to that name! They're pompous upstarts who worship Dragons just as the ancient Dragon Cult did. Ridiculous!
They're cruel, bloodthirsty, and prone to insanity, but frustratingly capable … as I learned the hard way."
Why did they trap you inside a doll?
"No one would look favorably on a resurgence of the Dragon Cult, no matter how laughable the effort. I threatened to expose them, and rather than kill me outright, they decided to humiliate me.
It's demeaning! I am a distinguished mage!"
What else can you tell me about yourself?
"Haven't you learned enough? I am merely an innocent scholar who wandered into the den of this sloppily reformed cult and was subjected to eternal misery for no reason!
Now, come on. We have a body to reclaim!"
So you want me to just stuff you inside my pack? / Should I stuff you in my pack now?
"Stuff? No, dear stranger, I would like you to gently place me inside your pack among your no doubt precious belongings, and carry me inside so that I might observe your progress.
Are you quite ready?"
I'm not ready yet.
"I don't think I need to stress to you just how terrible my existence is while I'm trapped inside this horrid thing. Take what time you need, but please bear in mind I am suffering. Miserably."
I'll be back.
"Fine. I'll be here … unable to move, trapped inside a doll, completely and utterly helpless. Take your time, won't you?"
I'm ready. / I've changed my mind, let's go.
"Lovely! Then pick me up and let's get going. I'd like to get back into my own body sooner rather than later. Wouldn't you?"
Let's go.

Once you enter Dragonhome, Heiruna will begin speaking and providing commentary as you search for her belongings.

Heiruna Doll: "Move those lovely legs of yours, darling! My belongings won't find themselves!"

After exiting the tunnel you'll find yourself in the ruins of the Nord temple, Heiruna will warn you to be careful:

Heiruna Doll: "Keep your wits about you. These cultists will flay you alive if you don't strike first!"

Approaching the summoning site to the south, Heiruna will give a critique:

Heiruna Doll: "The cult's summoning ground. Hmph. If I were a Dragon, I'd be wholly unimpressed."

At this summoning site, you can find Heiruna's Knife:

Heiruna Doll: "My knife! I stuck it in the neck of a few cultists before they overwhelmed me."
<Pick up the knife.>
Heiruna Doll: "It's really a shame that all this beautiful scenery is wasted on these fools."

Moving through the passages and chambers in the western half of Dragonhome, Heiruna will comment at particular points:

Heiruna Doll: "I almost pity this new Dragon Cult. I wonder if they know they're just sad, ugly little imitations."
Heiruna Doll: "Isn't this lovely? Living underground like rats. The mighty Dragon Cult, indeed."
Heiruna Doll: "You get all the fun! Could you take me out and wave me at the next group of cultists?"

Finding Heiruna's Mirror at the next summoning ground:

Heiruna Doll: "My mirror! And the bungling ogres haven't broken it!"
<Pick up the mirror.>
Heiruna Doll: "Ugh. It smells like death in here. Or … is that your pack?"

Finding Heiruna's Goblet:

Heiruna Doll: "Ah, my goblet!"
<Pick up the goblet.>
Heiruna Doll: "I shall have to scour the memory of cultist lips from it if I'm ever to drink from it again."

When you have all three items, Heiruna will direct you the main altar:

Heiruna Doll: "We have everything we need. Now, the altar should be up top somewhere. Hurry, hurry!"

You will need to pass through the cult leader's chamber to reach the altar, so Heiruna will dutifully warn you:

Heiruna Doll: "If memory serves, this is the cult leader's squalid domain. Be careful, darling."

The altar is up at the highest point of the ruins and Heiruna may makes comments:

Heiruna Doll: "My, what a view. It's almost romantic. Or it would be, if I wasn't a doll!"

Getting too close to the edge:

Heiruna Doll: "Careful, now. You're far too nice to look at to become a splattered puddle."

Crossing the stone walkway to the altar, Heiruna will be getting excited:

Heiruna Doll: "We're close. I can practically feel the blood flowing in my veins! I'm tingling!"

Reaching the altar:

Heiruna Doll: "Now place the items on the altar! That should be enough break the spell! Hurry!"

Placing the items on the altar, there will be a flash of light and Heiruna will be restored:

Heiruna the Merciless "Ah ha! At last!"
