Tymvaul wearing Mantle of Woe (Bloodmoon)

Mantle of Woe is an enchanted robe associated with the dark arts.[1][2] It was known for its corruptive nature and was imbued to grant its wearer great boons to magicka and art of conjuration at the cost of constant exposure to the Sun-based damage and reduction of defences of the wearer.[1]

History[edit]

Little is known of the origins of the robe, but as of 3E 427, Mantle of Woe was kept within the ice cave of Rimhull on the island of Solstheim.[2] A Dunmeri necromancer sought to obtain the artifact and discovered its location, but perished in Skygge, west of Skaal Village.[3]

In the same year, Tymvaul of the Skaal Village ventured to the Rimhull cave system through the well connected to the caverns. Seduced by old stories, he intended to discover the truth about the artifact, braving Rimhull's dangers and ultimately finding the Mantle of Woe. Corrupted by its powers, he proclaimed himself Tymvaul the Dark and planned to use his newfound powers to command the dead. Unaware of this, his father Lassnr believed that his son fell into their well by accident and gained the help of an adventurer to save his son. The hero braved the caverns and found Tymvaul. While it is unknown whether they managed to convince Tymvaul to give up on necromancy and the mantle or killed him, the Mantle of Woe became property of the adventurer.[4][5][6]
