Vateshran Barth was one of the most prominent Reachfolk historians and storytellers of the period of Interregnum. Numerous clan elders considered him a living legend. He knew history of countless clans and was known to resolve conflicts all around the Reach. He was also an author of The Battle of Karthspire Lea.

History

The Handfasting

Little is known of Vateshran Barth's past, but as 2E 582 he was considered a living legend among the Reachfolk. Numerous clans entrusted him with their tales and stories. One such tale was the story of the origin of the feud between Eaglesser and Six-Ford clans. Although it was believed by many that not even the Vateshrans knew how this conflict started, Vateshran Barth in fact knew was aware of the real source of the conflict. At some point he visited chiefs of both clans, who revealed him the tale of the feud between clans.

Vateshran Barth was involved in finishing the feud between Eagleseers and Six-Fords. In 2E 582, after years of constant feuding, the chiefs of Clan Eagleseer and Clan Six-Fords decided to finish the conflict through the marriage between their children, Eslyn of the Eagleseers and Madearn of the Six-Fords. The handfast was set to take place in Hroldan Ring and overseen by the Chief-of-Chiefs, Cannear of the River-Elks. The betrothed, however, could not go through with the ceremony, and the two escaped from the handfasting cave. Cannear had sent an outsider to retrieve the two. The adventurer managed to find them and decided to help them find the origins of the feud between the clans. They wanted to consult Vateshran Barth, who was known as the revered lore keeper, and planned to visit him in the camp in the southwestern parts of the Reach. Upon arriving they found out that he was kidnapped by the Thornroot Clan and taken captive to the Briar Rock Ruins. Vateshran was rescued by the adventurer and bestowed the secret of the feud to the two young Reachfolk. Soon afterward he was escorted by Madearn to the safe area in the Hroldan's Ring. The revealed knowledge prompted Madearn and Eslyn to search for the ancient totem that was related to the feud - the Lover's Coil. They managed to find and restore it. Over time, Eslyn, and Madearn grew affection for each other, but it is unknown if they decided to proceed with the handfasting or not.

Vateshran attended the handfast ceremony and revealed the tale to the public, which angered both Eagleseers and Six-Fords leaders. They were dissatisfied with Vateshran for revealing their secrets and with his cooperation with their children behind their backs. Cannear, while respecting the vateshran's involvement was not convinced that the feud can be solved just by revealing the past and restoring the old relic.

Ultimately, despite the cause of the feud having been resolved, it is unknown if their ageless conflict ended that day with the ceremony of handfast or started to slowly die out as more clansmen learned about the origins of the feud. Once the secret origin of the feud was revealed to the public members of both clans started thinking about the past, and began to question why the elders did not share it with the rest of the clansmen.

One of Barth's works The Battle of Karthspire Lea was recorded by a foreign scholar and published. A copy of the transcribed text was dedicated to Barth, who kept the book in his ownership.
