I'm all for trying to break the record for most users online. I'd love to be a part of that!

How about we do a 'Competition Ideas' competition, in which entrants suggest ideas for the next CotM and then we vote for the ones we want to participate in or see. We might even be able to use runners-up as comps for later months and that way we'd be able to ascertain what sort of turn-out to expect from these comps?

I'm going to say no to that, because that's why I made this thread. It would be silly to waste a month talking about things like that when we have a whole thread here for suggestions - you just need to give them! ;)

Ah, we meet again Avron, swords slashing... God knows I've longed for this!

I agree with Duruza. I think it would be good to have a longer term schedule for competitions. I haven't been active in competitions, but I've noticed the certain deadline panic. Having a bit longer perspective could give members a possibility to concentrate on "not this one just here" but "the one three months away".

People could concentrate on what they want, and what they can, instead of just trying to hit the competition.

You should have warned me - I would have put my admiral's suit on! ;)

Well, what does everyone else think? Do you want to have a "competition" in September to plan competitions - and other ideas - for the next few months?

I propose a caption competition in the meantime. Those are always fun.

I don't think we need a competition of competitions, but the advance schedule sounds helpful.

However, I don't think the problem is that people don't have enough time to submit something. I get the feeling that if you give people 3 weeks to submit an entry, they'll wait until 2 days before the deadline to even start making something, and then half of them will give up and decide "meh, not worth the effort." At least, that's the impression I've gotten for the contest I just hosted and the CotMs I entered. More lead time isn't going to make people more enthusiastic or procrastinate less, at least not for most people, I think.

That is a big problem. I've hosted a few with ideas everyone loved here but only got a few participants, if any; some are better than others. I mean, there's prizes! I'm trying to think of how to make them more exciting for everyone. :P

We don't need a competition to plan a competition. Maybe just go with the caption contest but with just one image that everybody uses, whilst using September to plan an uber competition for October featuring puppies, acrobats, cake and a trivia based team scavenger hunt, but nothing too arty as I won't win

I like the idea, because some of the competitions I've seen really do not interest me at all and I'd actually to have a say in which competitions go ahead. I'm sure I'm not the only one who zones out when a boring competion comes around or when one which is rather niche and doesn't allow me to participate (like anything artsy), is proposed and enacted.

I know what you mean about the artsy competitions. However, there is a shed load of artsy types on the forums.

What sort of competition wouldn't involve any kind of artistic talent?

@Deandra - trivia, scavenger hunt, starring contest, online multiplayer deathmatch, rugby.

@Avron - make it so (although I can't take part as I can't post images). I'll be the judge - PM me with details of all bribes.

Actually, an essay competition would be really cool if we could dream up a good enough topic.

You know how many essays I've written since I left education in 1999. None, I'd intend to keep it that way. This place is enough like a school at times without essay writing (if people are desperate for an essay competiton don't mind me, I'll will go and graffiti the bike shed)

This could take a while as democracy doen't really work that well for decision making.

Avron I suggest you write all the ideas on a seperate piece of paper put them in a hat and then pick one each month.

What if everyone put their ideas here in the thread (which is why I made it) and we have a poll here? :P

If it will make you happy.

I formally suggest the CotM should be - A team TES scavenger hunt.
