sorry to interrupt, but one way of assigning your stats we used to do was to take a 72 total and assign them where you want

we found it was fair and meant people could be what they wanted, rather than re rolling until the thief appeared (or whatever)

That can be used, but I prefer Kestral's method. It get's kinda boring if everyone has an 18 for their main stat. We can't all be the best Thief/Mage/Fighter/Cleric in the world...

people rarely choose 18 for any character, cos you'd end up with a 6 somewhere else, or you'd get an 18 with a load of bland 10's

on balance i preferred rolling cos you got the random element, and i actually like getting someone who had a few minuses cos you get a real role play boost from the start.. tho some gamers would keep rolling if they didn't like the result

i also remember having to roll 3 dice in front of the whole group, and having to keep the character unless you rolled a 3. Very harsh

Right. It's an ironic injury; see how well you do when you have two points in Charisma in real life.

Quite well, actually! You could go on disability and collect social security for the rest of your life, never have to work another day ever again! Your enemies would have to step gingerly around you, or you could publicly denounce them for hate speech, and if get bored and greedy you could go on Maury or Oprah and exploit your tragic story in return for false pity and bags of cash. Hell, you might even be able to write a book about your life, then everyone will nod their heads and cluck about how brave you are, and what a hero you must be to survive with such a tragically low dump stat.

You wouldn't even NEED to reallocate points into your prime build stat.
