Alright, time for another help thread.

Seeing as the wiki for Skyrim isn't quite up for the task yet (For obvious reasons) I searched the forums to an answer, but wasn't able to find one.

Once you have an Unusual gem, it tells you to take it to an appraiser. And the arrow points to Maul in Riften. But he won't even talk to me, he just tells me to finish the jobs for Byornjolf (I think I spelled that right)



So is that correct? Or am I just not going to be able to do this?

I was told to go and see Vex. Maybe you could try her.

Unlike you, however, I was in the thieves guild, so this might not work. Worth a go though.

Well, I tried what you suggested, but unfortunately, Vex wouldn't even speak with me. Must be what I ate.

I'm guessing this is just a thing for the Thieves guild, then?

I wasn't a part of the thieves guild yet and he told me to join and seek out vex, but that would be impossible without first being in good standing with the guild. I'm guessing you have to reach a certain point to actually have them appraised.
