Races have same speed.
Altmers no longer have +10 destruction and only +50 magicka and not +100
all races have a gray/brown skin..
Many skills that Races in had in oblivion got nerfed to death.

Ofcourse I dont have the game so I won't know very surely. Just what I read seemed alarming.

Perhaps uesp forums has hundreds of "ghost members" that abandoned oblivion years ago, and the forum, and are now hurrying back online to get into skyrim...

Okay you all amazingly went off topic.

But what the OP described was the mainstreaming of Skyrim for the mass market.

Indeed. Right you are.
So from this conclusion. Would the races in skyrim be necesarrily less.. potent/powerful/specialized than their oblivion counterparts?

Eh, in a way, you aren't penalized nearly as much as you were in past games for choosing a sub-optimal route. It kinda sucks, but it makes sense, cause you won't suffer at all because of it. Each race has some specialized schools, but not so much of a specialization that it deters you from making X class with cause of an attribute bonus.

The only thing that really bugs me are no customization spells, and no difficulty-slider bar...In a way, I want it to go up to 200% for the challenge seeking sadist in me.

Honestly, I'm glad they've reduced some of the racial passives, some of them made you feel like you would be an idiot for not choosing them for a particular class.
And this is coming from a min-max-er, so take that any way you like.

Sure, some racials completely changed, which I don't support as much (Mostly because of the extremely odd pairings for skill benefits with some races like Redguards), but they're trying to push the "Craft your character over the course of his travel" instead of deciding everything from the get go.

But if bigger numbers are what you consider a race's defining attraction, you need to brush up on your lore and enjoy their racials as 'flavor' instead of 'game-defining'
For all Nords who miss Woad, I am truly sorry...and for all melee specialized Nords, I am sorry you have a racial that is counter-intuitive to your nature, nothing I can say will make the damage be undone..

I like the fact that you aren't penalized for choosing the wrong race or class right at the beginning, you get time to find out what you want to do.

I hate altmers +50 magicka. That is five levels or choosing magicka, or a really good enchanted item, peeves me off because my mage is a dunmer ): Also sure you can hit level 10 than go from warrior to mage but you have already wasted 10 stat points and 10 perks, unless there is a way to redo perks yet I do not know about it.

So you hate it because it's a good thing? You look green with envy :P. I personally wouldn't like to be able to reroll Perks, etc. overly much, although I guess it could come in handy in some situations. This isn't Reckoning though, your choices and actions have consequences, you have to choose wisely so you can't just rush into a decision without proper thought. I don't know, but I like that, putting a little thought into what I do, and suffering if I make the wrong choice. There's always room for a re-start.

I also really like that the distinction between races is less about game mechanics than about role-playing this time. I broke Oblivion into pieces with efficient (ie. un-fun) levelling and min-maxing, this time I'm going in for a more story-oriented experience.

Oh, and this thread was started by someone who hasn't even played the game? I see your O_o and raise you a

Got another question.
Do Khajiits and Argonians have their tail stick "through" clothes/armor, like they have in oblivion?

I too have no problem with the "nerfed" stats. Speaking as someone who has been playing Skyrim for about 50 hours since released, I think it works really well. I'm a Breton spellsword, specializing in destruction, one-hand, heavyarmor, smithing and enchanting, none of which Bretons have any racial bonus in, and I'm murderin' foes like a baws, feeling like I alone made my character who he is.
