The Oblivion guide weighed in at roughly 540 pages. Just the regular Skyrim guide clocks in at 650. The special hardcover one has concept art and other goodies that will add more on top of the default number.

Needless to say, I'm getting it, since I collect guides and all.

The size and scope of their guide is impressive, and almost convinced me to buy it whereas I rarely do, but it is my dream and hope that such content fills the UESP wiki organically as it has before, with information about bugs and easter eggs and other up-to-date discoveries. Buying the guide would feel like a one-night stand for me and I'd personally feel a bit awkwardddd even if it was nice~

I don't see any use for it either, unless there's some cool artwork in it that you won't find ingame, it seems like nothing but a book of spoilers. Plus, one thing I love about a new game, is discovoring everything myself feeling like I beat this puzzle/quest/bossfight myself. But I guess it's there for people who aren't confident in their own ability to experience a game without doing something "wrong".

To each their own.

Strategy guide? The wiki section or forums here should be the only strategy guide I need.

I figure over the course of a month... most the pages will be written. Thats the way it was with fallout 3 and new vegas over at the vault.

I know im going to be spending 8 hours a day playing skyrim and probably that much listening to music while I help out here on the wiki

by the time people go "oh i wonder where blah blah blah is" chances are the page will have been written

I plan on getting the strategy guide, partly because I'm sentimental, and partly because I like being able to look stuff up without alt-tabbing out of my game. And it's almost 700 pages. It's got to have good info.

I am going to buy the special edition hardcover, if I can find one....Does anyone know how many of these they make and if it will be hard to find/get?

I will use this website just as much, but I also like having a hard copy. I have to be out of town this weekend (visiting inlaws in St. Louis) so I won't beable to play until Sunday night...I hope to get the book so I can read over some things on Friday night and Saturday night while hanging out at the hotel after the kids and wife fall asleep. Sucks I have to go this weekend, but I would rather go before I play the game because at least I won't know what I am missing.

I won't buy it. I will discover Skyrim by myself for a bit, and when it will come to theorycrafting (weapon damage etc) I'll check this wiki. Usually the wiki is more complete compared to strategy guides.

I think I'll get the guide after all; it would be helpful to have a reference at my side until the Wiki pages are fully up and ready.

Plus it's a good thing to have in case the UESP pages or my local network goes down. :p

Since I ruined a fair bit of Oblivion for myself by accidentally stumbling across just about every spoiler there is via the guide, I'm inclined to avoid Skyrim's, particularly since for that price I can buy a Changeling: The Lost sourcebook. Plus, I find that a strategy guide takes what you might find in the game and closes it off from the fairly infinite things your imagination provides, into narrow boundaries indeed.

It's simply not as fun after that, unless it's a guide like that of Resident Evil 4, which isn't perfect and hence allows you to still be suprised.

Why do people assume that getting the guide means ruining the game via spoilers? Some people just like to have the guide to look good on a shelf or read after they have played the game. Just because someone gets the guide doesn't automatically mean they will read before playing. And yes I am getting the guide.

Edit-Fixed a typo.

No. I got the AC: Brotherhood Strategy Guide last year and the Oblivion GOTY Strategy Guide a few years before that and, while both were a good read and kinda' useful, they weren't that great.

Plus, I don't have enough money, so even if I did want to get it, it's kind of moot.

No need for the sarcasm. Scribbane wasn't saying that no one buys the guide to rely on it, just that not all people do.

I don't see the need for sarcasm either.

While I certainly am not the ES gamer that many of you are, I don't mind dying while figuring it out on my own.

If it were a LESSER game (other than ES), I would argue that I simply don't have the time for multiple playthroughs while discovering ALL the game has to offer.

In THIS game I DO want to experience all this game has to offer for as long as possible. Some will use it to get out of a situation quickly though.

Example: Before I knew about this website/forum back in the Oblivion days... I was playing Oblivion and didn't have the guide or anything.
Before level 6 I contracted the vampire disease and being a TOTAL noob at the time I saw the (nightly) prompts about my worsening condition.
I ignored it and my beautiful character burned the hell up in the fleeting moments of sun I had to be exposed to. I was frustrated and couldn't find the answers I needed through the game... I put the game down for 4-5 months before I picked up the guide (then came to the site) and ultimately BYPASSED that craptastic situation (for me, that is) by getting the DLC which solved it promptly.

Still, to each, their own...
