Hi. I got out my old collectors edition disc and installed it on my PC When I try to run it, get as far as the launching screen, one sec of the Bethsada red on black screen, then get the Windows message saying there's a problem.
I installed it in my F:\ Games folder (C drive is just the old drive from my previous motherboard with Windows stuff on it).
Should that be a problem?
Is there a copyright protection on the CD ? I have installed it previously on the old hardware (the rig I bought to play this New elder scrolls game! )

My PC runs Skyrim OK.

If you'd installed it before and could run it with no problem, my first thought is that it might be something to do with the drive letter. Might the program be specifically looking for the necessary resource files on C, or possibly on the CD drive? Or is it okay to install the whole CD on a hard drive with a custom letter and folder name?

I don't remember how I ran the pre-Steam version of Oblivion on my old computer. I do recall having to swap CDs when playing the pre-Steam version of Morrowind GOTY, but of course that's a different game. :)

OK, I've found the problem. I thought it might be a disc problem so I've bought it again, on Steam, but still didn't work.

This is the answer
https://steamcommunity.com/app/22330/di ... 904183679/

Move all files in (My Documents/My Games/Oblivion) to a different location. Start the game and see if it works. If it does then you may copy back the "Save" folder back in.

I found the save games easy enough on the original default C:\ folder. I've yet to copy them back, but meantime it works well, and once again I can live the OST :P

All my other games, including the ones in the Steam folders are on my F drive, which gave me hope that that wasn't the problem.

I'm glad you got it figured out, although I'm sorry you had to buy the Steam version-- although I find it handy to play on Steam and be able to continue my game on a different computer, like my laptop.
