That's funny; All of the versions I've ever played had enemy health bars. I know they were absent from early versions, so I'm curious what version you're playing. If memory serves me right they would appear over the player's health bar during combat.

The enemy's health bar should appear in yellow over your own health / magicka / fatigue bars. It only appears when you hit the enemy, though, and will fade out if you're not scoring hits. If you're not seeing an enemy health bar you may have to apply an updated patch.

I'm playing the original game for Xbox. I know that health bars were included in later versions, but I've just got the basic game, without them.

It's going to be quite an experience, I can already tell.

Edit: I finally understand why people are always saying how much they hate Cliff Racers. Those things are honestly the most annoying creatures I've experienced in any game, ever.

I have given up on trying to use the in-game journal and have started writing things down on a physical piece of paper. How do they expect you to keep everything straight when it's all lumped together with no indication of completeness?

Not that I'm getting many quests done. I've spent an awful lot of time just wandering around aimlessly, so far.

I believe, at least from various plug-ins/dlc, that there is an options menu that lists out active quests but in regards to gathering info you'll still need to ask around.. That, or use the wiki(fYI, the wiki's map is invaluable)

Yeah, Tribunal adds a menu where you can look at active quests and only see entries for a specific quest

I believe its Tribunal that added the Journal sorting and keyword function.
Original Journal was abysmal, like Beta said, the wiki is your friend

I thought the enemy health bar was patched not too long after Morrowind's launch...

I've only got the most basic of games. No GOTY edition, no Platinum edition. It's for the Xbox, so no plug-ins or dlcs that I can get, either. So yeah, I've already grown quite close to the wiki.

Couple o' tips for Xbox play: First and foremost is to turn off shadows. Equally important is to create a new save every time, an delete old saves so that you don't RROD. In addition, you may want to zero the music bar, but I found that less necessary after following the prior advice. Always ALWAYS save before entering any grotto.

Personally, I preferred MW's journal. It was more organic.

Organic? Yes, a jumbled mess and horribly unorganized? Also yes. There is a reason why the wiki was so necessary <_<

Personally, while I like the presentation of a journal and the lack of hand-holding(namely via quest markers) I did indeed wish that it at least had an UI for managing active quests and what tasks have/have not been completed.

Also there's the but with managing and gathering info <_< Asking about or around for tis bits of info for a quest or destination is all fine, you don't need to be hand fed it all.. Even in Oblivion, especially for the DB questline, it did alot of good to gather tips or info. On the other hand.. Morrowind is rife with NPCs giving to vague or sometimes just down right wrong info. Need a dungeon to explore? I can accept getting a rough estimate on where it is in relevance to the terrain <_< I can not accept being told it's on near the East coast when in fact it's as far inland that I could feel Dagoth's breath on my shoulder >__<

I dunno, I like having my journal be messy and disorganized. I know that's a subjective opinion, but it reflects my personality. When I write down notes (and I do this a lot; I carry a notebook and pencil with me everywhere) I write them on the first blank page I find. People ask me how I find anything. I tell them I flip through the notebook and look with my eyes like a human being. I don't strictly regiment my diary; that would be pathological.

Having a journal that chronicles all of your quests and every action you take from the moment you step off the boat kind of makes Morrowind feel more real. I mean, at least it's not like the journal in Daggerfall where you had quest notes that often failed to update properly, and dialogue notes that you could never get rid of so you were really paranoid about accidentally hitting the "copy to notebook" button on every dialogue screen.

This is something I really dislike about modern games, actually. I know it's more convenient to have quest info be represented with a three-word title plus map marker and maybe a one-sentence description, but it really takes me out of the world when I can't read my character's thoughts inscribed on (curiously fire-proof and water-proof) paper. I like seeing my character's history as the adventure evolves and shapes his personality reflected in the actions that I take when I roleplay him.

I'd be honest here, with how Morrowind manages it's quests and to how they can easily intercept one another.. Not to mention how easily you can ruin or fail a whole questline by the simplest of actions/consequences.. Like, say, killing an npc you had no clue was crucial later down the game :wat:

Gosh, that really makes you appreciate Oblivion for introducing essential/unkillable npc's, and maybe the fact that I don't need to micromanage and use a spreadsheet just to complete as many quests as I can/want

And yes, I am not joking.. Actually use a spreadsheet to chart out which quests in morrowind to do and in what order.. Thank the Nine for uesp.net

I did a search but didn't find an answer so I thought I would ask here: Is the Saints Shield bugged? It says 124 armor rating in its description, but when it's equipped my armor only goes up by about 10 points.

Are shields factored in differently when it comes to basic armor rating?

I'm not sure...I'll refer to the armor pages to see if there might be a reason. I was just wondering if someone might know offhand. I know your armor skill will affect how well a piece of armor protects you so maybe that's what's going on. I'm not at 100 yet and I'm also mixing Light armor (on my body) with the Saints Shield (Heavy) so maybe that's the problem.

It's explained fully in the section of the page of the MW wiki, but basically each piece of armour will only contribute fractionally to a player's overall AR (depending on what "slot" it is equipped in) and the armour's AR depends on the player's skill in that "type" of armour (light, medium, or heavy). A shield contributes 10% of your overall AR, so the Saint's Shield with an AR of 124 should be raising the player's AR by 12.4 (and by less if you're swapping it with an existing shield; i.e. the old shield's AR will be subtracted before the 12.4 is added, obviously).

(OT) Woohoo! I finally have enough posts for a whole coin!

I would really like to see some kind of writeup for the number-crunching system used in Morrowind, almost like a player's handbook like in Dungeons & Dragons explaining all of the crunch. I would have to imagine that some of it must just get brutal.

Is it safe for me to store my stuff in the mage's guild supply chest?

You can't place items into supply chests (if you try to, it will say "You cannot put items into this container" or something like that). Even if you could, it wouldn't be safe to do so since the supply chest contents respawn periodically.

Thanks! Didn't know they restock.

What's a safe place to stash loot? Some of it is stolen.
