Hey folks, I about this glitch years ago but I guess it was never implemented into the Wiki. It's simple, you switch to third person view, scroll the camera out till the item you want to pick up is right in front of the camera, open the menu and pick up the item with the mouse. Seems it calculates the items distance from the camera, not the character.

I started playing Morrowind again and I've found a nifty use for it. You know how placed items change which direction they're facing depending on the characters facing? Well, when you scroll the camera out it retains the facing of the character, not the camera.

Effectively, this means I can face my person so placed Books are aligned to the shelf and I can proceed to scroll the camera into the shelf and place them on top of each other. Helpful only to those who want to decorate their house. Maybe.

Is this worth mentioning on the Wiki?

Wow - this is a nice discovery. :)

I usually rely on mods to store my books nicely, so it's nice to know there are alternative methods.

OK, lets see if I can do this.

===Moving Items at a Distance===
On the PC version the player may enter third person view and rotate the camera by holding the Tab key and zoom with the Scroll wheel. When you open the menu you may pick up any item that is near the camera, irrespective of the player character's position. The items can then be placed into your inventory. Items that you place are rotated based on your characters facing, not your camera's angle. Useful for decorating hard to reach places.

Intended for:

Look's fine? Can I get a random person telling me it's good enough?

Thanks! Done and Done.

Congratulations folks, you were part of the most recently discovered (I think) Glitch in a 12 year old game!

Well, it got removed because:

"not a glitch at all. You can pick up things that are near you"

Apparently being able to move items that are a distance that's unreachable from your character while stationary doesn't constitute as a glitch, I suppose.

If it's not a glitch, the assumption there is that it was intended by the developers to work that way. Seems questionable to me.

Perhaps you could put a little more stress on the fact that items are reachable relative to the location of the camera itself, not the PC. Considering the maximum scroll distance, you should be able to pick up items that are almost an entire loading cell away. This is no joke, and is almost certainly a result of developer oversight. So I don't grok why there should be any debate whatsoever.

You might clarify the difference between scrolling the camera and simply toggling into third person. But I don't think your excerpt necessarily fails to make that distinction.

^Same as above. I fail to see a where the confusion is really, though that may be because I've been reading this thread as well and thoroughly understand what you mean :P
