and "must have" mods? I'm sure vanilla would run fine.

I know for a game this old there is a TON of mods, including a lot of graphic/texture mods. Like I see some mods and it looks almost like real, but I imagine it's a lot of work to get there?

I would just install the best bang for buck mods and some "must have" graphical ones I guess if those exist? Or is really up to the performance of your pc and skies the limit?

Wondering whether I can justify getting a gtx 1080 if all I want to play is oblivion/skyim with mods and "futureproof" somewhat for ES6.

If I don't need to upgrade at all, I will just keep the gtx 460 until ES6.

Man been a few years since I've been here. I miss oblivion.

Well I can't say how GTX 460 will handle the game but I can say that I've got a GTX 1080 and I love it.As far as mods are concerned let me direct you to the modding guide from Bevilex on the nexus.

https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/47591/)

This is mostly centered on Graphics and visuals but also stability it's a nice handy little guide that suggests mods and how and when to install them so everything behaves nicely plus for some categories it gives you several suggestions for mods and you choose the one you like the best.

Another recommendation definitely get Wrye Bash and BOSS and use Bashes installers function it will make life so much easier and you used to have to also have Oblivion\TES Mod Manager if you wanted to to easily install Darnified UI but recently someone has made Bash Ready install wizard for UI mods on the Assimilation Lab.

Good luck and enjoy,I am hoping to start an Oblivion play through myself pretty soon.

Has modding gotten easier? I remember I was intimidated by it about 5 years ago when I was looking into it. Compared to skyrim it was a bit more difficult.

Its not that hard if you use Wrye Bash and its installer function which allows for easy installs and clean uninstalls. Plus you can drag and drop archives from your downloads folder over Wrye Bash when your on the installers tab and it will transfer the archive to the Wrye Bash installers folder and it will appear in your installers list.I cannot understate how much easier and safer this makes things and Boss will sort your load order.

Don't you will pick up everything you need to know pretty fast once you get started, just make sure to mod test every couple of mods you enable to make sure everything is working correctly,an Alternate start Mod and the console will be your best friend while mod testing, also trust me follow the guide I linked to its really good and comprehensive and explains a lot.

Oblivion runs on a graphics engine that was optimised for a GeForce 6...
