Will I be able to level up by trainers, after I've reached my maximum level for my charachter? Given the fact that you must wait until full charachter level up, to train more than 5 times...

Thanks.

I mean, if you've reached maximum level (that being 100 in every one of your primary skills), then you are totally locked out of training seeing as you have no more levels to attain. Kinda just how it is with Oblivion's unorthodox leveling system.

Except aren't there a couple of ways to go beyond 100? I don't mean by wearing stuff that boosts your stats, I mean like by getting special bonuses for completing a quest or whatever. Also, can't you temporarily lower your stats via potions or spells, then increase your stats by training or whatnot, and when you restore your decreased stats you can go over 100 that way?

I guess you could purposefully go to jail and get your stats lowered or exploit a couple of glitches. Not very efficient either way, but you can get it done.

I generally try to avoid going to jail, and I've never deliberately lowered my stats to exploit that trick, yet I almost always end up with a few skills that are over 100 thanks to getting a permanent boost as a reward for completing specific quests. But if I remember correctly, there are only a few specific skills that can do this.

I want to get all skills available to level 100, especially the magic ones - since I'm playing as a Warrior.

I do realize that some minor skills of mine are pretty much impossible to be leveled up to 100, though (Mercantile for example, no matter how much I sell, haggle, even buying a house and some furnisihings - leveling up in this skill is hell.)

So I understand after I'll be reaching my max overall charachter level, even practicing some minor skills won't level them up, let alone paying for trainers, they'll be stuck at their current level forever. Thought it was like Skryim Legendary, where you could level up anything to max. Anyway thanks for answering, still great game though, Shivering Isles is awesome!

I'm pretty sure I've gotten all of my skills up to 100 or slightly beyond whenever I've played Oblivion. I very seldom use trainers, except for those cases where someone offers you training as reward when you complete a quest. Speechcraft in Oblivion is much easier than Speechcraft in Morrowind, because the wheel with the four options is simple to use to your advantage, whereas the randomness of Morrowind's approach to Speechcraft kind of stinks by comparison. Work on improving your Speechcraft first, and use it to maximize a merchant's attitude toward you before you try to haggle with them. Haggling is a large part of improving your Mercantile skill, because buying and selling improves your Mercantile skill more if you've haggled a better deal for yourself.

What I find helpful is to save my game just before I start to haggle. Then I try to find the maximum percentage the seller will agree to, starting with a high offer I think they'll probably reject. If they do reject, I reduce my offer-- either by 1% or maybe 5%, or in certain cases 10%-- and try again. If their opinion of me drops too much, I do the wheel again to get it back up as high as I can. (And I never bribe anyone, unless it's absolutely necessary as part of a quest, because I'd much rather sweet-talk them than part with any gold.) As soon as I find a percentage they'll agree to, I increase it by 1% and try again (if I've been going down 5% each time), or increase it by 5% and try again (if I've been going down by 10% each time). If you've ever taken computer programming, think "binary search," because it's sort of similar to that idea. Then, after I've found the best percentage they'll agree to, I restore my game and start with that percentage. If their attitude toward me is better in my saved game than it was after they'd rejected my offers, I try increasing another 1% to see if they'll agree to that.
