Hello. I have a new pc and installed Oblivion on it without incident.
But I downloaded the Unofficial Patch and as far as I can see, it does not come with any installer or anything. The instructions said to just copy it in the game files. And I did. But it does not appear in data files and the game is not aware of the files, so the patch is not functional. Did I do something wrong? Can someone help me?

Sounds like you downloaded the manual install. Look for a version with an installer?

I actually did, and they resulted in the exact same file.

Used to be an installer version I thought? Can't find it on darkcreations though.

I went looking through some of my old files and found a copy of v3.4.4 that used an installer.

Don't remember why I bothered with it

BAIN is the contraction of Wrye BAsh INstaller.

I still cannot install it. I did both a literal copy from archive to stated file directory. Nothing. Did a grab and drag copy. Did show but does not appear in data files when I want to start the game.
Am I really so retarded? I've deleted and re-installed the game 4 times now... wth am I doing wrong?

Are you extracting the UOP to the Oblivion directory folder (Steam\steamapps\common\Oblivion) or to the Data folder (Steam\steamapps\common\Oblivion\Data)?

This PC > Windows (C:) > Program Files (x86) > Bethesda Softworks > Oblivion.

This might be your problem.



The UAC (User Account Control) can cause problems.

Create a folder on C: drive and name it Games.
Install Oblivion in the Games folder (C:\Games\Oblivion).
Try and install the UOP now.

As many times as you've reinstalled, why not try one more time outside the Program Files (x86) folder.

Followed instructions. 7Zip did actually unzip it correctly, but the game does not recognize the esp file.
Could it be that I have the wrong unofficial patch? Do I need another one for SI + KOTN?

This (#1 Most endorsed file of all-time on the Oblivion Nexus) is the only UOP I know of.

There is an but Bethesda is it's author so I don't know why it has the unofficial moniker.
I believe it updates the version of Oblivion (I could be wrong).

Should I just install that/overwrite where needed?

When you say "...the data files still does not recognize it.", what do you mean?
Do you mean the .esp isn't in the Data folder?

Have you tried extracting to somewhere else, say your desktop, then draging the file into the Data folder?
Or cut & paste them into it?
I can't think of any reason for the .esps from the UOP for not being in the Oblivion Data folder.

1. Install UOP
2. Install USIP
3. Install UODLCP
I don't recall that any of the patches overwrote one of the others.

The file is where it should be. When I display data files, it only shows oblivion.esp, shivering.esp and kotk.esp. The esp for the unofficial patch does not appear in the load list. Therefor, it cannot be activated.

Do you have the same problem when/if you add files from a mod (any mod)?

I have not yet installed any mods yet. Though at this point, unofficial patch or not, I'm just glad I can actually play the game again. And the discs I have did come with the latest "official" patch, so I guess that will have to do.

I think issue still exist because it is causing lot of troubles during installation!
