I want to know if my computer will run Oblivion. The specs are:

Intel Pentium 4 1.70GHz
768mb RAM

Video card is ATI Radeon 9200 LE with 64mb video ram.

Its running Windows XP pro sp3.

I checked the wiki for the video card and I know I'll need Oldblivion. I just want to know it will handle Oblivion on very minimal settings?

Only problem I can see is the processor. The minimum required is 2GHz and mine is 1.70GHz and maybe the ram also but not sure about that. :\

This computer runs Morrowind perfect. I have Morrowind set to maximum settings with shadows turned all the way up and view distance turned all the way up and it runs Morrowind with absolutely no lag.

I just want your views on it being able to run Oblivion. Thanks!

EDIT: I think this might be in the wrong forum. If it is I apologize. Didn't see the Tech forum before I posted this.

My laptop has somewhat better specs, aside from the processor (4GB system RAM, two AMD HD 6310 cards, and an AMD E-350 1.6GHz processor) and it struggled to run Oblivion on its lowest settings. It typically hovered around 20fps or less. Playable, but it sucked. In comparison, my desktop averages 50-60fps with all settings maxed.

From my experience with it, you could probably get Oblivion running. Though... With specs like that, I don't know how well. If it did run, I'd predict a lot of crashing. I'd try anyway just to see what happened.

Oldblivion can provide a very good game. However your GPU specs are, to put it mildly, limited by even Windows ME standards.
Things won't improve as the save games increase in size either.
Look out for a AGP GPU with a minimum of 256 mb. Not many good ones around these days, unfortunately.
Other than that, try bfullbrightlighting = 1 for "safe mode" graphics, but better play.

Based on those specs I wouldn't see you having an enjoyable experiance running it.... it might chugg along but it'll be borderline unplayable id say.

I'm still gonna try it once I buy a copy. You never know unless you try. My video card is supported by Oldblivion.

Just go to FAQ and scroll down to supported graphics cards.

Sorry but that's the mobile version of the wiki.

Update: I got Oblivion installed on this computer running with Oldblivion. It plays pretty good. But it crashes every time I enter the sewers for the first time. During the first tutorial part of the game. You know, right after the emperor gets killed. Don't know why. Didn't crash hardly any till I tried entering the sewers. :s

EDIT: I fixed it. Just had to edit the Oblivion.ini file a bit. Now it runs flawlessly even though the graphics look like crap. No big deal though. Getting pretty good FPS too.

I guess you've checked out http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tes4Mod:Oldblivion
There's the prospect of slightly better graphics running the config utility and enabling bloom etc. as described there.
