When you jump onto the rune portal to take you up to the sigil stone on an Oblivion Gate, the portal just makes this swishing sound and spins you around so you are facing the wall instead of taking you up. This happened to me on the first Oblivion Gate at Kvatch. I got around it by using a journal command in the console and picking the quest back up after the gate has supposedly been closed. However the Oblivion Gate is still there and I didn't get my sigil stone. Also I haven't got credit for closing the gate on my stats. It's now happened again on the next gate with a rune portal. Bearing in mind that I'm not a computer genius does anybody know a way around it? Loading saved games does not work.

I had to use them like a door. I walked up and looked down and hit use. Is this not working?

Nope. Every time I do this the portal spins and I end up facing the wall. No upward movement at all.

I don't think the portals are suppose to spin.

You look down.

Click activate.

WOOSH!

You should now be facing the wall 1 floor above where you were originally.

I know that's not much help, sorry. I have no idea what could be causing your problem.

Thanks for trying. No, there is no upward movement. The floor above should contain the sigil stone so I know I'm staying put. Have started new game but that doesn't work. Will now uninstall it and re-install and see if that works. In the mean time if anybody knows how to get round this please let me know in case uninstalling it doesn't work.

Hold on, are you in a room the looks like this: and trying to activate the floating stone do-dad at the top of the metal spike-stair things?

What Dark Heart said. These do not function like a "lift" as much as a warp. You should see a flare animation that blanks the screen for a second, and when it fades you are actually just one landing above your previous location, but still within the same atrium chamber of the tower. You will have to move to an outside door to enter the Sigillum Sanguis, ascend a brief, charred-looking hallway, through an archway and into view of the image that PrinceJonathan linked.

Except for being bumped by NPC's or knocked down by attacks, I can't think of any effect or feature of the gameworld that physically moves the player character, but tons of instances where you are "magically relocated". This is a case of the latter.

I'm thinking he's stuck trying to use the stone thing in the Sigillum Sanguis that looks like a teleporter to move up to where the Sigil Stone is.

Which I will admit I tried to do my first time climbing a Sigil Tower. But that stone do-dad isn't a teleport, it's just a stone do-dad. To get to the Sigil Stone you have to walk around and climb up the red curtain thing.

Thank you everybody. Yes I was in the floor below, not the sigil sanctum. I must have been warped up a floor as you said. I was expecting it to act like an elevator. The only confusing thing about it was that I killed a conjurer before I got on the portal and the body was still there after I activated it which is weird. I have got into the sigil sanctum and walked up the red thingy and got the stone now. Again, thanks a lot everybody.

I experienced the same confusion when I first played Oblivion 5 years ago, and if not for this thread, probably would have experienced it again now that I'm playing the game again. Glad you got it worked out, and thanks for posting this thread.
