One of the few reasons why my mages never fight in the arena is the npc with the grey aegis rendering spells useless. (the other reason being the stupid need to wear armor so chameleon cannot work >>)

Can an enchanted dagger damage that npc or will the shield prevent that too?

Why would you think one melee weapon would work when every other melee attack would fail?

Try a bow.

In the past I used a 100% chameleon spell in sneak mode and hack away at him with a daedric dagger. But that's not very mage-ish. Is there a way for him to drop his shield? o.o

The Grey Aegis isn't very warrior-ish. But it's being used inside the Arena. So, the rules are out of the window.

IIRC, your spells may be reduced in effectiveness by wearing Arena armor, but not a potion. Use a Chameleon potion with your spell and you should be all right.

Not the same thing though, there is an NPC with a shield enchanted with 100% resist magic - the OP is looking for a way to beat that as a mage.

Only way I can think of is a 100 point disintegrate armour spell, but I bet it wouldn't work.

I would say you're just gonna have to suck it up and bash him to death with a sword.

I've done it before, and really that Resist Magicka is just a [&@%!].

He's not that tough, and your Mages Blade level is bound to be so low that you can even RP how long it'll take you to kill him as a sign of your characters ineptitude.

After you get 100% chameleon up, you can conjure a creature(s) to kill him while you watch. A Storm Astronach is good for this. Or you can use a bound dagger and stab him once with a poison. Both Conjuration and Alchemy are mage skills.

TBF, while it would work, it does miss the point of the Arena to do it that way. You know, combatant vs combatant and all that...

The summon idea is great. I'll get a Xivilai to shred him. ;3

If you want to fight the Gray Aegis as a Mage-based character, use Conjuration spells like Summon Clannfear. I wouldn't bother with any Summon that uses magical attacks.

Summoned Clannfears only have a physical attack that deals 36 points of damage (and ignores armor I think as melee attacks from creatures don't seem to lower my armor's health).

Summoned Clannfears also have a built in 20% Reflect damage. So the Gray Aegis will be taking even more damage as it attacks the Clannfear.

While he's distracted by the Clannfear, you can use a bow to take him from a distance. Apply poisons to really lay on the hurt.

If you have an Alchemy Skill of 75, you can make a "Damage Strength and Speed" poison by combining Tiger Lily Nectar, Primrose Leaves, Dryad Saddle Polypore Cap, and Peony Seeds.

You can apply this poison to a sword and get in close if you want. Damage Strength will rapidly lower the damage of the Gary Aegis's attacks, and Damage Speed will slow his movements. As an added bonus, if his speed reaches 0, he'll be frozen in place!

I don't think it's possible to combine Damage Strength AND Damage Speed with a Damage Health or Elemental effect.

I know if you use a Dryad Saddle, Peony Seeds, Milk Thistle Seeds, and Harrada, you can make a Frost Damage, Damage Health, Damage Speed, AND Paralyze poison easily enough.

What's great about that is all that damage counts as a "Poison"-effect instead of "Magic", so it should completely ignore the Gray Aegis's fancy shield.

I'm just not seeing how it isn't magish when every single mage in any ES game carries a dagger.

I leave the Gray Aegis dude until I have a fair Blade level, but my normal level isn't that high, better attacking with a sword, no increase in opponents strength, not the attribute, just the generic term.
