Hello

Since I am new to this forum (Not to UESP, I've just never used the forum before), I was a little unsure as to where to post this topic. So if I have posted it the wrong place, please just move the topic. But since my problem is related to Oblivion, I thought that this would be the most fitting place.

I am playing Oblivion, but have now encountered a problem that I have no idea how to fix. The thing is, that I apparently at some point accidently deleted some of the game files, which have caused that I now am unable to play the game. I would try to remove the game from my computer, to install it again, but apparently the uninstall program, as well, is missing. So now I am unable to use the game for anything, and I can’t even uninstall it from my machine. I have tried almost anything by now, even install it on another computer, and then transfer the missing files over to my game files, which too proved unsuccessful. I can’t call their customers service, as I live in Denmark, and the calling fees would be way too expensive.
So I was hoping that maybe some of you in here, would have an idea as to what I could do. Besides cleaning my computer completely, which I have considered myself, but I would rather not, if there is some other option.

So I really hope that you can help

-- JDO

Do you mean you deleted them off the disk? is that even possible?

But if you mean you jsut deleted some oblivion file on your hard drive this is fixable. Just go to the Bethesda folder under "C drive -> program files " and you just need to delete the folder. After that make sure you have deleted any traces of anything oblivion on your computer and simply reinstall again.

This once happened to me. The uninstaller got lost or deleted somehow.

I used the free trial of this program, to get rid of it in order to reinstall it.

I think the problem is the registry key that Windows makes for Oblivion sticks around if you manually delete the game files. When you use the uninstaller it deletes the registry key as well.

Of course you could always go manually into the registry's and delete the Oblivion key (I'm not entirely sure how to do this, googling it should provide an answer).

Hope this helps, good luck, and welcome to the Forums :)

How did you try to uninstall it?

From the menu when you load the disk, or start the game?

From The Control Panel > Add/Remove Program?

From the Start Menu > All Programs > Bethesda Softworks?

I would suggest using Jakarius321's Link first.

Then, if you do not get any other suggestions from others, who might know more than me...

1) take the Save Files, and move them to a safe place. You might want to also do this for any Mods that you may have downloaded.

2) You could then Manually Delete Bethesda Softwors / Oblvion. Do a Search, and Delete all remaining BS/Oblivion Folders & Content. Don't forget the: C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxx\My Documents\My Games\Oblivion, to include the .ini file.

Like Jak mentioned, the Registry Key is what does not get deleted, and prevents another Install.

3) From the Start Menu, click on Run, they type regedit. You will get the Registry Editor. The go to the Following: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Bethesda Softworks Then Delete the Bethesda Softworks Registry Key Folder.

I deleted it easily when I had that problem. Just go onto "My computer" right click the one with the oblivion logo and click "explore" then click "setup" it will uninstall the game even if the controll panel uninstaller doesnt work
