Hey! when I first started playing oblivion i had no realisation of the leveling principal but having read about it on the wiki it seems I can no longer play the game without worrying about +5 bonuses and making sure im stronger than the enemy! When creating a class, I spend ages choosing the 'right' skills and sometimes i think is it worth it, as leveling seems to take the fun out of it for me now! Should i be worrying or is it only in extreme cases when the enemy become stronger?
Thanks and any thoughts are appreciated!

Listen, my friend. Efficent Leveling is overrated.
If you are constantly worried about the fact of raising the right levels then you're not going to enjoy the game as much.

To be honest, I've never worried about leveling. I just do it as it comes and Ive never run into any situations that I couldn't handle.

So my advice is don't worry about it. Just do whatever is fun for you. :D

I only grind lvls to get the perks.

like when I make my breton blade assassins with illusion and destruction on the side.

efficient lvling just isn't worth the time unless you're already grinding out a bunch of lvls

i never used to do it and i only struggled with oblivion gates but thts because when i first started playing it i had athletics as a main skill which wrecked my leveling. :P
then i heard of EL and now i cant get a character past level 10 and keep restarting trying to get it right. it has ruined it for me because of the restrictions and repetitions. ppl tell me thts it worth it but i cant see how.

so i decided to only EL intelligence and endurance because they are most important.

my bf gets his EL characters to level 30 and i think "how the hell?"

See I think that deciding whether to EL or not, is just simple logic.

EL--- You do what you HAVE to, to level up

Non-EL---You do what you WANT and enjoy the game more.

From now i think im going to forget about EL apart from maybe Endurance as i dont mind letting enemies pummel me in heavy armour! Would there be certain circumstances where ineffective leveling could become a problem? I.e speechcraft, mercantile and alchemy as major skills?

It's a game, which means it is meant to be fun. Do what is fun, screw everything else!

I agree with Kaelan, I was fine playing the game up until a couple months ago and never hearing about "Efficient Leveling"

has not having the +5 ever been a problem before you learned the levelling system?

yeah, don't bother with EL-ing, I just make sure that all of the levels I level up in have a 3-5 bonus, not 1 or 2, that's when you get pretty screwed.

My favorite thing about the game is training but for some reason I don't efficient level. It seems like too much work keeping track of what stats I've leveled. I got all my attributes to 100 exept personality and luck by training my minor skills a bit but I don't keep track of it.
