I've often wondered if in the end, my personality as a player of the game is more akin to an Altmer or Breton. I state these two because I almost always play as some magic-oriented Wizard or Mage. Combat and Stealth bore me. No matter what I do. I'd believe I'd be more likely painted as an Altmer, as I rarely use Restoration, and am at best ambivalent towards Conjuration. Mages need no conjured weapons, as they spam Destruction, and Alteration is better suited for protection in the form of the various Shield spells. That is not to say that the Breton's 50% Magic Resistance is not eminently useful.

Bretons are said to be peculiar and abstract-minded inviduals. I guess that sort of applies to me. But honestly, I am more of the restless and active-minded Altmer perfectionism sort of mentality in the end. I never really quite got why Altmer have their 25% Elemental Weakness.
I guess the 75% Disease Resistance is often explained because of the supposed eugenics they may practice, or have practiced. Not sure if that accounts for much about that.

Altmers are portrayed as Offensive Mages. The bonus in Destruction shows that.
Bretons are of course more Defensive Mages. 50 less Magicka, but 50% Magic Resistance.

Some might be tempted to experiment with Blade or Blunt or even Marksman alongside Destruction, like the Spellsword, or Witch Hunter classes. Not sure if that avails much of use. Honestly the only real value would be allowing you some use of Damage Health Poisons or Elemental Damage Poisons, rather than selling them. But even then, with Expert or Master Alcemical Devicery, Poisons can be so strong that a mere daggerstroke will ensure death of the target given enough time.

The main issue of using either of those 3 skills is that you'd need Agility in some way, either to reduce being knocked back, or causing your Bow to do more damage, or gain more Fatigue.

It's rather inconvenient, as I'd not see Sneak as particularly relevant to level, and with Alteration, Security is kind of useless. But I am focusing too much on details.

Not sure how well known I am about the boards. If I had to guess, I think I'll get seen as an Altmer. Might make a poll for this topic.

I guess that since I do go about as my Altmer name here; that is of course Daemos Avetorii. I guess the whole Altmer or Breton may as well be a moot point then. Still, cast your vote if you'd care. And thanks for reading. :)

Most of my characters have been an Altmer. But I switched to Breton characters because after Skyrim I can't "unsee" the evil Altmer :)

The stat and race bonuses are mostly irrelevant. 50 magicka more or less is easy to overcome. The difference in starting stats goes away quickly after a few hours.
At the end game you need some kind of magic protection for the Altmer, while the Breton can use a Sigil stone or enchantment for extra magicka.
