So I just started playing Oblivion...yes late bloomer and I looooove it. Anyhow I have a a statement/question before I drive myself nuts for the next 3 hours. I retrieved the Knights of the Nine Helm, (then I went down the path of destruction forfeiting my right to ever be able to wear it) so I sold it! Is it lost for good, or if I can remember who I sold it to, will it still be in that shop? I have repented and realized I can still complete the quest and have most of the other relics. Also If I can't get it back will it affect the quest at all???

I don't know of any way to get them back if you lost them. You can find items in shops a few days after you sell them, but after that it's gone. I believe you need all of the relics to complete the quests, I never let go of them (or any other artifact). As a rule, if it's a completely unique item, never give it up. Gold is worthless compared to those items (if you get no use out of them as anything but trophies, even).

Yeah, you need the Blessings of All Nine Divines, hence the name, to complete the quest. Sorry, but you might need to start over.

A good tip: make multiple save files of your character. That way, if you do screw up down the line, you can go back to a save file from before those bad, bad decisions and start fresh, without having to start the whole character over. I learnt that the hard way!

I completed the quest minus the helm. Actually I found myself putting the holy armor back on it's stand and just using my regular armor for defeating Umriel. On my way in to his area(followed by my new knights) they all bum rush any attackers. I accidentally hit them with my sword and needless to say was denied the right to once again wear the holy armor. It unequipped right in the middle of a fight...yay...

Anyhow because I had completed the helm quest, it still counted as me having it. Boom! Quest done!

I never tried without the armor, and couldn't find any note on that. So that's interesting, regardless.

You don't need to wear the armour to defeat Umaril. Once you complete the quests to get the pieces, like it was said up this page, it counts you as wearing it. You just need to get them and finish up by getting the Blessing of Talos, and floor Umaril, then you are done.
