Erabunimsun tribe problem...is my game messed up now?

I seem to have dropped (and cannot find) one of the items I'm now supposed to give to a character to get him to want to be ashkan. I saved my game after and now I can't get any further. Is there any way to fix this? I'm playing on the X-box.
Any help would be appreciated, I'd hate to have to stop after all this time

do u know what the item is called u may be able to find a double... (dont think so)
u really dont want to have many saves on morrowind (i had like 20, and i froze up like 2-3 times a day)
ive gotten my xbox memeory down alot, all u got to do is down load halo 2 maps off of xbox live they are like 5-8k blocks apiece

I know nothing like that ever happens, well, only if my cd is scratched, but that is really rare.
