Hello, it has been a while since I last posted in this forum, but I'm back with another question.
Coming back to the various TES games reminded me of an odd event that happened on one of my older games, back when I didn't know about mods (so those are an unlikely source of the problem) and played on a purely vanilla game (just with the two expansions and nothing more).
My character was a Khajiit who had finished Bloodmoon's MQ via the werewolf questline as well as the East Empire Comany's; I established myself in the Gloomy Cave during my period of Lycanthropy and stashed all my belongings here (ultimately losing Caius' papers, but that's not the main point), and got cured after the fight with Hircine. Following this, I decided to try vampirism with this character, and joined the Aundae clan, and this is where the oddity comes in.
Of course, going from Ashmelech to Sadrith Mora means travelling at night: I'd run across the land as a werewolf thanks to Hircine's Ring, and wait out daytime in the closest cave or tomb. Resting triggered the various vampire dreams, but sometimes another thing would also happen: a messagebox would appear on the bottom of the screen telling (roughly translated from french) "you are awakened by the sound of bears near you" ( I currently presume it was related to my character's past as a lycanthrope) and a grizzly bear would spawn in front of me and start attacking. It appeared to be a normal bear, easily killed and with no particular drops, but it would happen even on Vvardenfell; I managed to replicate it recently, and it appears the bear's ID is BM_bear_black_Claw_UNIQ, which would suggest a tie to the Totem of Claw and Fang (which I had recovered after the MQ and getting cured).
Upon further research in the CS, I ultimately discovered that it was caused by carrying the totem in my inventory creating a 10% cahnce of a bear attacking in my sleep. While I understand that it makes this post moot as I just answered my own question, I remain intrigued by the fact that this function is barely documented at all (only the unique ID is mentioned on the Bloodmoon:Creatures page, but no mention of its link to the totem is made). This little event has been bugging me for years, and I'm still surprised to discover new things in Morrowind even today.
Ultimately, thanks for reading this post, and sorry if it all seemed pointless.
