I got Morrowind GOTY with Bloodmoon and Tribunal. I've got all the expansions installed, and with a recently acquired spark sword, I also snagged myself some nifty assassins armor. So I'm running around Balmora, and I've incurred a fine, and I decide to pay it, and along the way, I lose my armor! I took it off a guy who attacked me in my sleep, why is it stolen? Is this predicted? A bug? I've started collecting a set of Orcish armor I guess I can wear instead, but this assassins armor is pretty excellent.

I'm new to Elder Scrolls but I have been playing for a few weeks.

PS: Thanks for this site and wiki! I try not to just follow a guide through the game, but sometimes I'm really stuck and the wiki is a great reference.

PPS: A level 4 thief shouldn't try to walk from Vos to Sadrith Mora, the result is 4 monsters and 2 bandits chasing you all the way back to Vos!

I've taken the assassins armor numerous times and I've never gotten it taken away from me by the guards. Least as far as I can remember I haven't. So I don't think it's stolen. But I could be wrong.

Do you have any mods installed?

If you do then one of them might be conflicting with the assassins armor. Making them stolen items.

Yeah if its taken from a corpse its not usually tagged as stolen, but not to worry. There are several ways to get it back or aquire a new set. I'll provide more info only on request to avoid unsolicited spoilers, but its all on the wiki. Morrowind is easy to get lost and the wiki is a great reference when you're in over your head to get your bearings again.

IIRC, if you store stuff in a container that 'belongs' to someone else, then your equipment gets the 'stolen' tag when you retrieve it. This is quite likely if you've been 'Dungeon Clearing' or 'Unique Object Collecting' and have been using random chests to juggle Inventory space.

I once had Azura's Star taken off me by guards...

Best to assume that all your equipment is tagged stolen and pay any fines wearing rags, imo.
