Is it possible to avoid a quest, yet still get further quests from the same quest-giver?

Hmm? If you mean in a quest chain, then no, but some quest are skippable. Of course you're on the PC. Might I suggest using the console to advance to the quest to the turn in point and then turning it in? Or are you against that kind of thing?

Not from the same quest giver, but you can go to others from the same faction. You can become the leader of most guilds without doing every single quest.

Thx, guys; very helpful. Total newbie just now starting my first 'real character' after running my first one for a little while to better understand the game. Hoping by careful planning and plotting to avoid slamming my head into too many Walls of Ignorance about how things work. :)

"Or are you against that kind of thing?"
Not against using the console, but I try to only use it to tweak things that don't seem quite right to me, though sometimes it is sooooo tempting. :)
