So I am playing Morrowind for the first time (finally!) and I'm in Balmora. Ra'Virr is trying to sell me demon weapons, and I've seen a lot of references to them online - but for the life of me I can't figure out what they are! I feel so dumb. Take the demon tanto for instance - it's a physical sword, but it says it's enchanted to create a bound dagger "when used." Where is the dagger? Does it replace the physical tanto I'm holding in my hand? What does it mean to "use" the sword - to swing it? Make contact/do damage? What does this mean? I am baffled.

To use an enchanted item, you have to go to your Magic menu where you select your item and equip the spell. From there on out, it's like casting any other spell.

Bro Tip: Kill Ra'Virr. You shouldn't get a bounty, and you'll be able to take all of his items of his corpse, including his Demon weapons.

Not trying to be rude or sexist, but are you a girl? Nevermind, great to see new players playing this legend. I recommend staying in Balmora. My favourite town, really.

P.S. Sorry if the first question is stupid or weird. No offense ment.

You know, I've never really used bound gear in any of these games. In concept, I think the option is fantastic, but I've just always favored high quality arms and armor and quickly level up strength and repair.

That wily cat will be happy to sell you his knockoffs at a fraction of the price, and it may be a fair deal early in the game for these reasons: the enchantment conjures a Daedric weapon for a set time. Daedric is the highest quality weapon or armor material, generally speaking. When the spell expires, it can be summoned again, for as many times as the remaining charge of the enchanted object allows before depletion. When the charge is depleted, there is still a weak tangible dagger that can suffice in most fights, provided the enemy takes damage from normal weapons. There are many ways to re-charge the enchantment once the fight is over.

To use the enchantment, equip the enchanted weapon to your spell slot (iirc, doing so with a weapon also equips it as your active weapon, so pay attention to weather you want to cast the spell or wield the knife). When you cast an "on use" spell, that's all you've done. Immediately activate your weapon slot to draw the temporary blade and attack. When the spell expires, you'll revert to only fists, as I recall, so be ready to either cast the enchantment again or enter your inventory to equip something else.

As always, better and more accurate information is found in the wiki.

I wouldn't say that makes you an idiot; rather it's proof of the many nuances yet to be discovered.

Believe it or not, there are still secrets to be found in Morrowind.

If you have a favorite magical item in TES III, and you're on pc, it's better to hotkey the spell effect so you can pop it off quickly. This is especially useful for healing items and intervention items but an item like a demon tanto can get some mileage out of this, too.
