I am wondering if there's any shortcuts or "fast ways" to get through the game.

Here's my situation: I am wanting this because for quite a long time (a VERY long break in between times of playing) I was playing Morrowind, having joined several factions and was doing their quests, so naturally it took quite a long time. I was just about at the part where you fight Dagoth Ur and end the game, but then decided to hold off on that for a while and finish any remaining quests I had, first, before finishing and ending the game. Well, during that process, my hard drive (the original one, in my Original Xbox) died, and so I lost all of the info for Morrowind and any other game that was on it. Therefore, I have to start all over again. :\

That's why I'm asking if there's any way I can get through the main quest without really joining any factions, and therefore making the whole thing a lot faster. Any tips on that, and on speeding it up?

Not necessarily a fun way to do it and you'll get the least out of that game by doing that. But it shows that you don't need to do any quests at all if you want to. Joining factions is definitely not necessary. They will just help you to gain experience and provide you with gold and items that will help you on the way. It's an open world. Do whatever you want, whenever you want. Just be prepared to get your butt kicked by stronger enemies.

Yeah, doing that would be like French-kissing your sister (unless your sister is Taylor Swift). Just play the game again. Raise the difficulty or play Dead is Dead or do any of a thousand other things to keep the experience fresh and worthwhile.
