I wanted to console in a weapon (player->additem steel broadsword 1) and the material type, steel, isn't recognized.
I get this message "Script SysWindow CompileAndRun Item steel was not found on line 1. Compiled script not saved."

It doesn't make any difference what material I use, what type of base weapon try or if I capitalize (Steel vice steel) .
I tried iron, ebony and nordic with the same result.
The only difference in the message I get is the Item material type.

I get the same result if I try the PlaceAtPC command.

I consoled in cloths, ingredients, armor, books, an artifact weapon, a repair hammer, a lantern, to check and they all worked fine.

Did I have a massive brain fart and forgot something or leave something out of the console command?

I can't quite remember how Morrowind works, but I believe that you have to put the item in either quotation marks ("steel broadsword") or with an underscore (steel_broadsword) if there is a space. I can't remember which it is at the moment though.

I used the ID from the construction set and it didn't use an underscore ( and I had tried that, just to be sure, before my Original post ).
I was skeptical that using quotes would make a difference because I hadn't used them on anything else I successfully consoled into my game.

So I tried quotes anyway and it worked!
Thanks

Now I'm wondering why they're needed on base weapons and not anything else?

I thought quotes were needed on anything that wasn't one word or underscored. For example, if you coc, you can type coc balmora, but need to type in coc "maar gan".
