It was working fine this past spring (March -> May).
I didn't play it again until 2 weeks ago and now as soon as I select New or Continue, it crashes immediately.

Since it last worked I've updated to v14.9 (from v12.something) on the Catalyst Control Center (set to "use application settings") and applied whatever updates Windows wanted.

The game will launch without the Overhaul (MGSO and neither v2 or v3 works).
It crashes if I install MGE (any version) in the vanilla game.
Turning MGE off in Overhaul makes no difference, it still crashes on launch.

I've tried clean installs, used Programs and Features to uninstall, tried with the UAC OFF and installed it in C:\Games\Morrowind (where it's always worked in the past).

I really don't want to stop using the Morrowind Overhaul but...
Anyone got any suggestions?

Might be your Catalyst Control Center update. You can try experimenting with the settings in the Catalyst Center.

Might be one of the settings messing with the Overhaul graphics in Morrowind but I'm not too sure.

Maybe Darkelfguy well come here and help out. He knows more about this stuff than I.

I suspect it has something to do with the CCC too...but what?
Everything is set to "Use application settings".
I looked for any threads about the Catalyst Control Center breaking the Morrowind Overhaul.
None that I could find.

I had Morrowind looking just the way I wanted it.
The only thing that could make it worse is if this, whatever it is, screws up Skywind for me. :(

Maybe you don't have Shaders enabled or something? I honestly have no clue when it comes to stuff like this. Sorry. :s

I PM'd Darkelfguy about this topic. Maybe he'll come along and help out.

He knows more about this than I do.

To be honest, I'm not the best person to go to for technical issues with MGSO. I only made the jump to 3.0 back in January, before that I had been playing vanilla for 11 years straight. It could be the Catalyst I guess, I haven't updated my Catalyst drivers since about...well, January really.

Truth be told, it kinda sounds like a corrupt install. I'm not sure what setup you have (either the plain disk-version install or the Steam install), but have you tried completely deleting the Morrowind folder and installing in a new location? The only time I've ever had an issue with a Morrowind install that worked for me.

Only other suggestion I have is to try installing , not exactly MGSO but still better than vanilla Morrowind, especially as they get closer to release and add more features.

Really though, for better technical support you should post a thread on the , there's a lot of people more familiar with MGSO issues there than I am.

I didn't think to ask if it's the Steam version or not. Keep forgetting about Steam.

I updated my video drivers and installed Catalyst 6.11 last night. Glad it didn't mess up Morrowind.

Yeah, your best bet to get it fixed is to go to the Official Bethesda forum that Darkelfguy linked to above. Like he said, there's a lot more people there that can help. That's more knowledgeable about that stuff.

I have the retail GOTY version.

I did Google searches using Morrowind, GOTY, Morrowind Overhaul, broken, CDT, MGE, and maybe some other terms I've forgotten, in various combinations.
The searches lead to a lot of threads on the Bethesda forums but none matched my problem's symptoms. :(

@Darkelfguy Do you use OpenMW and if you do is the water real pixelated? Even with the Water reflections set to OFF.

Using MGSO still causes an instant CTD when selecting New or Continue and installing to C:\Games\Morrowind locks the Morrowind Launcher.exe (I checked permissions and Everyone has permission.). :?:

But I did get it working :) in a new folder without MGSO. :(

I created a new folder, Elder Scrolls III, in my C:\Games\ to install to and used MGE 3.8.2-rev.0178.
On a lark, I installed to the default location in the Program Files (x86) and that works (without MGSO) too.
