Since my last character flopped I was hoping for some inspiration on here, reading a topic in the oblivion section suggested I use my ancestors and compare it to its ES race equivalent since they tend to draw inspiration from real cultures.

So I wanted to know what race best represents the English? after that I can work on adding some personality and skills. :D

The closest thing to the English are the Bretons.

Could be both? England and France have a long mixed history, anyway now that I think it is kind of obvious... I figured it was either Breton or Imperials but I was not sure. This means I can play an assassin and it would fit in perfectly with lore!

In real life, the Bretons descend from Britons who emigrated over from the island. The name for the region in France, Brittany, basically means 'little Britain'.

Mind you, these are Brythonic Celts we're talking about, not Anglo-Saxons.

ES does a decent job of not making the races perfect representations of real races. They draw inspiration, but they're not predictable.

That being said I think Bretons are by far the closest you'll find to the English. They have nods to other European cultures as well, but they reflect more distinctly English culture than any of the other races (unless you count this new posh Dunmer accent).

Indeed. Bretons correspond to most of central western Europe, if you discount the germanic countries.
