So I was doing this quest in Falkreath where the blacksmith asks me to go find a dog outside of town. Well, this dog's sort of special, and sort of has his own agenda. I followed him to the first place he wants to go, (which ironically I had already cleared out,) and then he wants me to go one other place. The dog is now following me rather than the other way around, and isn't taking the place of my actual follower, so I've got me, Lydia and the dog. The dog is nice to have around because he's really tough -- in fact, I think he's essential -- but he's CONSTANTLY bumping into me and pushing me, which makes targeting things a total pain. I know he's expecting me to go to his place, and his "nudging" is maybe a way to get me to go where he wants, but I can't even pick things up off the table effectively with him following, and the place he wants me to go is waaay cross-country. I have no intention of getting there post-haste. I can talk to the dog and tell him to stop following me, but I'm not sure I'd find him again and honestly he's pretty darn handy in a fight...when he isn't ruining my stealth.

Note that there are no actual spoilers here.

I think you can "lose" the dog and let him go on ahead and then just go to where he ended up. Try fast traveling to some place far away and return.

He can be quite annoying by blocking doors etc.. There is a dialogue option to tell him to stop following, but I never tried it and am not sure if it impacts the quest.

Please use a spoiler alert in both your titles and posts. You can add spoiler alerts by going into FULL EDITOR and hitting the spoiler button. Type between those brackets and it will show up as a little button people can click so other users know its a spoiler.

It will keep everyone happy :).

Spoilers? For what I wrote in the OP? I know musicman was joking, but Hackattack, I made it a point to not spoil anything while still coming out and saying what I was trying to say. It's not like I mentioned for quest. I just said you find him near Falkreath.

If I spoiled something by telling you that there is a dog somewhere that follows you for the duration of a quest, then sorr-ree! I mean, with the existence of followers in the game, surely it was expected (after FO3 and FO:NV) that there would be a non-humanoid follower of some kind, probably a dog...

Incidentally, I did tell him today to stop following me. I left him in the middle of town. He wasn't there when I came back. There's a possibility he could be gone, idk, but the quest is still in my log. Other than the fact that I have a feeling the quest is probably designed with the expectation he will be helping you, I could in theory go finish it without him.

edit: Post below me? That's a spoiler. Might want to change the name to just "the dog," dawg.

Barbas is amazing in a fight, and I'm pretty sure he can't die. But the pushing me a round constantly thing was really annoying, so I had to tell him to go away.
