If I buy it in store. Do I need to activate it in any special way?
I don't want to use steam in anyway. I prefer discretion. I don't trust steam.

erm..why don't you trust steam? Very few people use there real names, and most I see people put for location is like...country. Only thing steam is used for skyrim is achievements, I think the saves are stored there, and putting in the code for the game. If you look under help I posted something so you don't even have to install via steam if you have the disc copy. Only reason I could think to not trust steam would be if you got hacked...but that would be your fault so technically you don't trust yourself? XD. Ive been using it on the same account since around it started up, have about 100 games on it, never been hacked before. But I definitely reccomend doing the install from disk thing, installs 99999999999999999999999999x faster.

so.. it's possible tpo buy it in the store. and install and play it outside of steam?

You do need to activate on steam, but even if you were hacked or lost your steam account, you would still have the game. Not sure why you distrust steam so much to the point where you won't even play the game...

I don't trust steam because I'm afraid (not as much as Glarthir) that they track people's stuff.
Online discretion might well be dead anyway. oh well. XD

But why give the registration thing a false name/data etc. Does that not undo the very thing it's suppose to do?

...Who cares you name is Billy bob jim. Even the weirdest names out there there are thousands with the same name. Who cares about your birthday? What are they going to get from that? "Well they celebrate this day...". And if you really are afraid the people at valve are out to get you than put a fake one down, its just meant for hacking-protection and incase something happens you can verify its you. Just remember what you put down. I usually put down jan/1/1901. The game is worth it even if you had to give a total stranger your address and phone number. Its amazing, fable series used to be my favorite, Skyrim is now my favorite game of all time.
