AD&D. 2.0 or 2.5 iirc.

I think that BG1 is just AD&D, and then for BG2 they brought in the 2.0 rules. Class Specialisations and such, then for IW2 they brought in skills, and a different levelling system.

I prefer BG.

I always loved 2.0 without the skills. AD&D was good too, but I loved BG2's system the most.
I wish it was easier to play some D&D over the internet.

What do you guys think I should play first. Baldur's Gate or Neverwinter Nights? I've bought those games on GoG but couldn't decide which to play first. >_<

Sweet Tempus, you guys actually LIKED 2e? I grew up on 2e too, and yeah, I feel a bit of nostalgia for 2e every now and then, but nostalgia's the ONLY thing it has going for it. The rules were way too restrictive and cumbersome, particularly in regards to character creation and development, not to mention the boring, politically-correct pall those mid-90s Mormons at TSR tried to wipe over all their published material. I mean, remember when you to argue for hours just to be allowed to play as a half-gnoll Paladin? I sure do, and man, did it suck. Forget 2e, 3 and 3.5 were clearly superior in EVERY conceivable way.

I DID like being able to be a halfling paladin, but I'll always be an elven ranger at heart.

Anyway, new IWD team as well, even though I've done little with my main. Been busy.

Leader - Arathir Delphias, Chaotic Neutral Male Human Bard. Scion of a rich noble family, Arathir killed his father after he tried to abuse his mother, and fled his home. He became an adventurer far away from where the law could keep watch on him.

As for the rest of them, they're actually completely disposable. I aim to keep Arathir alive, but that's it. Anyone else dies, they get replaced. -shrug-

What do you mean with "replaced" on IWD? You can just create new dudes if they die?

Yeah. I kick the dead from the party, and then go to party setup, make new guys there.

Do they start as level 1, though?

IIRC, you can import saved character files, like in BG. So you can cook up a nice level whatever with the aid of an editor, save him to a file, and import the guy straight into your game. You can even screw with his starting equipment if you like.

THAT'S the way to handle a dynamic, fleshed out party. Lydia, go sit in the corner and hang your head in shame.

Just managed to get my Multiplayer working for BG2 on Windows7. Will post my party when I remember to note down what they all are. God I missed this game :D

By multiplayer I mean single player-multiplayer lol. As in I create 6 characters myself.

I prefer BG over NWN by far. NWN was a good game, but doesn't come close to BG in any way.

I didn't use the Big World Mod, but I think I used something similar and...well, it made the game SO much better, especially the ones which made weapon crafting possible...barely. It glitched out a couple of times and gave me greatswords instead of slings (don't ask, i don't know).

I prefer NWN over BG, simply because I prefered the story-line. For some reason, I felt that the entire BG story was rather hard to follow in places, probably because I saw them as fragmented. the NWN storyline makes sense and goes into depth about the WHOLE start to finish, rather than BG which, in my opinion, threw together a couple of random stories to make one whole.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing (lol) BG, I really like BG, but I much, MUCH prefer NWN.

Gah, I shouldn't even open this subforum. Every time I do, I get this urge to dust off something that's been standing on my shelf for years, and just dive in. So many games, so little time...

I think Baldur's Gate 1 was responsible for my grades drastically dropping when I was in the second year of high school... ;) I have the Polish language version and at the time it was one of the most expensive and best localizations ever made. I mean, some of the best Polish actors are cast in this...

I finally weakened, and downloaded Tutu.... Doros... You were right. It IS awesome.

The only thing I miss about BG1 is some of the graphics. The BG1 helmets looked awesome, and Elves looked badass.

Stupid BG2 Elves with their vagina-throats.

Other than that, I'm enjoying being able to dual-wield, and level up higher than 8 or 9.

You may be referring to THE MUD MASTER!!!'s GateKeeper and ShadowKeeper, for BG1 and BGII + ToB respectively. Wonderfully done and open source. And has no qualms with any mods I've encountered, TuTu / BigWorldMod included

Yeah, I've got ShadowKeeper. But whenever I've tried to get GateKeeper working it conks out somehow. I can't remember any details, as this would have been about 9 or 10 years ago. But still... Might give it another try... I never even thought of changing the sprites. Again, Doros to the rescue!
