I'm desperate to use the 2.13 patch cheats, but first I can't even tell for sure what version I have, and I'm not sure where to look. But I don't think I have 2.13, because I altered the z.cfg file to include a line saying "cheatmode 1" and I didn't notice any of the cheats working.

Problem is, when I try to download 2.13 and execute it, I get a message saying that it's not compatible with my version of Windows. I tried all the compatibility-mode stuff and troubleshooting and nothing. If I try to run as administrator, it tells me it can't find the file and to check the spelling (even though I right-clicked, didn't type).

Can anyone help me ensure I have patch 2.13 installed?

I'm playing in DosBox, and I'm using Windows 7 home premium 64-bit. I think I used that thing (I can't remember what it's called, it's been a long time) where it installs dosbox and everything for you all at once, Daggerfall Installer or something like that?

I'm only semi computer literate so any instructions should be spelled out very specifically if possible.

If you back up your saves, uninstall Daggerfall, install Daggerfall Setup , and then put your back up save files where they have to go, you should be good to go. The Daggerfall Setup is the latest version of the game, and you can choose whether or not to have unofficial bug fixes and/or fan-made quest packs.

Okay, I think that's what I used to install before, so I must have the latest patch. That just leaves figuring out why I'm not getting the cheats to work... Probably a PEBCAK situation.

Yup, that's the exact info I was working from, but the game isn't responding to my feeble attempts to cheat, so I'll just double check everything and try to figure out where I went wrong.

ETA: thanks for the confirmation re: DaggerfallSetup and the patch #, that at least saves me the trouble of trying to reinstall something I've already installed!

In case anyone else falls victim to this same dumb mistake:

Because it said to "add a line," I added in "cheatmode 1" without looking at what was already written. At the bottom it already said CHEATMODE 0 and so was overriding what I'd written, I believe. I was supposed to have just changed the 0 to a 1.

And this kids, is why reading is important.

It's working fine now (at least, the cheat that matters to me, which is the [ ] one)
