Summary

Stop hand.svg Do not use this as an all-purpose link to Lore space—that is not what this template is for. Instead, use a normal link to the page you want, optionally using [[LO:pagename|]] syntax if you want to keep it short.

This template attempts to find a valid link in the current namespace, the parent, or Lore space. Failing all that, it shows a red link by default, though this can be overridden to display plain text instead. Showing red links helps to reduce errors caused by typos, since showing them as plain text gives nobody any indication if there's a problem with the link.

For instance, it's perfectly valid for the Oblivion:Abecean Sea article to transclude Lore:Abecean Sea, but because of prior links, the Oblivion one gets red links to places like Hammerfell and Valenwood. We don't want Oblivion:Hammerfell and Oblivion:Valenwood pages because those ought to link to the Lore space.

What To Use

  • {{Lore Link}}: This links to the gamespace (or parent) article if it exists or the Lore article otherwise. It is almost never correct to use this outside of Lore space. Instead, use a standard [[Lore:...]] link. Lore Link's main use is in transcluded Lore-space books, where it's typically desirable to link to that gamespace's article, if it exists, rather than Lore. An example of this would be Lore:Ascadian Isles. In Morrowind space, you want to link to Morrowind:Ascadian Isles; in any other namespace, it makes more sense to link to Lore:Ascadian Isles.
  • [[Namespace:page]]: Link directly to the namespace. This should be used in cases where the namespace will always be the same and either the page already exists or a red link is desired rather than linking to the Lore article.
  • [[Lore:page]]: Always link to the Lore page, regardless of whether any gamespaces have a same-named article. This is most useful in cases where you want a broad overview of a subject rather than the local version of the article.

Parameters

Lore Link
Parameter Scope Description
1 required The name of the page to link to.
display or 2 optional Text to display instead of the page name.
NSlink optional The link to use within the specific namespace. Always use the full name, including namespace, without square brackets (e.g., "Online:Werewolf (NPC)", not just "Werewolf (NPC)"). The namespace is required to allow for custom parent links, such as linking from a Dragonborn page to a custom Skyrim page. To override linking in a given namespace, pass this parameter explicitly as blank (e.g., SRlink=).
NSdisplay optional The display text to use within the specific namespace.
redlore optional If the link resolves to something in Lore space, display it instead as a red link to the original page. This can be used on an entire page, permanently or as a way to double-check everything, by specifying it at the top of the page with {{#local:redlore|1}}.
verified
v
optional If the link doesn't resolve to anything, it is displayed as a red link. By setting it to verified, it will display as plain text instead. Please ensure the link is free of typos before adding this parameter!

Examples

{{Lore Link|Hammerfell}}

In Daggerfall space: Hammerfell. In this case, it points to Daggerfall:Hammerfell because a Hammerfell article exists in that space.
In most other spaces: Hammerfell. In most other cases, it points to Lore:Hammerfell because no Hammerfell article exists in the current space.

{{Lore Link|Vivec (god)}}

In any space: Vivec. Regardless of where it links, this example shows that the display text will always strip off the disambiguation text. This also applies to plain text if no link is found.

{{Lore Link|The Hamburglar|v=1}}

In any space: The Hamburglar. This will always display as text, since we have no article with that name, nor are we ever likely to. Note that unlike a red link, this will not generate an entry on Wanted Pages or any similar page.

{{Lore Link|Werewolf|werewolves|ONdisplay=cute little bunny rabbits|ONlink=Online:Werewolf (NPC)}}

In Online space: cute little bunny rabbits
In other spaces: werewolves
