Tamriel Rebuilt People - Take 2[edit]

Hi TRL. I'm just following up on this discussion—I want to make sure I understand the process before I get started. As I understand it, I need to scan each of the following pages:

...and for each row in the People table, if a page doesn't already exist, I should create a redirect from Tes3Mod:Tamriel Rebuilt/NPC's name to the page I found the NPC on. Is that correct? Assuming it is, I now have follow-up questions:

  1. For the two "People in" pages, should it redirect to the "People in" page or the parent city? I'm assuming the "People in" page, but wanted to double-check.
  2. Some NPCs currently have red links for names rather than just plain text. Should I still create the redirects in those cases, or skip it based on the assumption that a full NPC page will be created later?
  3. Some are using a full table, while others are using the {{NPC Data}} template. For the ones where it's currently a table, should I be parsing the NPC data from them and storing it in a {{Non-Relevant NPC}} template? Robin Hoodtalk 21:57, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
Ultimately, I think they should all be using the NPC Data template. The ones that are red-links are ones I've already determined are relevant, though there may be more. (My criteria were pretty simple - offers service or is of high rank in a faction, or has something obvious like a unique quest-specific script on them. Certain quest-related NPCs are no doubt missed by this method.) You could (and this might be a separate task) create basic stub NPC pages for these cases, though I understand the Non-Relevant NPC template was designed to be easily convertible to a standard NPC Summary, so they can be changed later if necessary. As for the "People in" pages, you'd link to that page, not the city. The reason those pages are separated out is because the Akamora and Necrom pages would be huge if the NPC list were included. (Much like Firewatch, Helnim, and Port Telvannis) It's possible that similar pages will be created for smaller cities, as exists for Maps 1 and 2, but these are generally transcluded onto the city page, so that's why the redirects go there. --TheRealLurlock Talk 00:02, 5 August 2012 (UTC)
Just so you know I haven't forgotten, the basic program is designed. It still needs some finishing touches (like creating a stub page for red links instead of a redirect), which I'll probably do tomorrow, and Kiz is doing some verification for me to make sure I haven't missed anything. So probably within 24 hours, all those pages will be created. Robin Hoodtalk 00:58, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
Cool, there's no rush, really, because I don't think too many people are even looking at these pages, let alone editing them. I've been slowly doing the location pages pretty much single-handedly. Took a break to do all the books by myself too. So any help I get will be appreciated by me, but might not get all that much attention elsewhere... --TheRealLurlock Talk 02:24, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
Okay, it's done, and hopefully it did everything correctly. You can see a summary of what it did on the bot's Results page. Robin Hoodtalk 02:45, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
I think we missed a few. Probably my fault as I didn't go over the list too thoroughly. I was just trying to fill them in at Hlersis, and found those weren't there. Also, the people on this page should all be blue-links now, but they're not. Are you only doing people who have the "m3" prefix in their IDs? Because I've found there are quite a few Map 3 people who are listed as "m2" instead. (For instance, the entire population of Necrom, and Hlersis, which is why I asked.) I think this may be due to redistricting - possibly Necrom and other places were originally intended to be part of Map 2. --TheRealLurlock Talk 03:06, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
I wasn't looking at the Map3 page, just converting the existing table entries in the major settlements (from your Sandbox) to NPC Data templates with redirects or stubs. I can look at creating redirects for the rest of them tomorrow. You'd want blank {{Non-Relevant NPC}} templates on the pages, I assume? Robin Hoodtalk 03:15, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

() Yeah, probably. Many will probably need to be converted to NPC Summary later, but that's another story. And since I don't think there's a list of Hlersis people anywhere, here they are:

Arenar Talanian, Athas Fendyn, Balamus Hlerayn, Bedaves Sarothril, Bradas Grothilas, Bun-Zaw, Dalam Rethre, Fedura Varam, Gadali Sarothril, Golam Danoran, Madali Merath, Muz-Ra, Nadene Oril, Norus Drethan, Rilamus Sarothril, S'Baadar, Thadas Erethan, Undilaril, Vaden Nerath, Vedave Arendu, Vedaves Sendalas, Zahraji.

Ultimately, you could probably load up Map 3 and get the entire name list from the CS and check if every name exists either in Morrowind, Tribunal, Bloodmoon, or Tamriel Rebuilt space, and if they aren't in one of those 4 places, add it to a list so we can figure out where they're supposed to go. Odds are, it'll be somewhere in TR space, as the main game and official expansions should already be complete. --TheRealLurlock Talk 03:53, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

You had to make my life difficult, didn't you? :Þ I hadn't installed anything prior to Skyrim since I got my new computer. That's okay, though, I had a bunch of other stuff to install as well, so I did it all at once. Dunno if I'm feeling up to CS work today, but I'll see what I can do this weekend. Robin Hoodtalk 22:23, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
Oh, I misunderstood what your bot was doing - you were just copying the data I entered on those tables? I thought you were getting it from the CS somehow. (Was hoping the bot could save me the task of looking all that up, as it is kind of tedious.) At this point, the CS is all I have for Morrowind - I've sadly misplaced the discs, and it hasn't been properly installed since my last Windows reinstall, so I can't actually run the game, but the editor still works. Anyhow, like I said, no rush. Just whenever you can get around to it it'll save me a bunch of work. --TheRealLurlock Talk 02:22, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

Reporting spammers that spam on existing pages[edit]

Hi TRL, in your summary of this block, you wrote "No warnings for spammers, just block 'em." I couldn't use speed spam here, so I mainly put the warning on the user's talk page to raise an admin's attention - or should these cases always be reported in a new section on the Administrator Noticeboard? What's the best time-saving procedure for the admins? --Holomay 14:48, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

Oh, don't worry about it. I just said that because I was removing your warning in favor of the blocked notice. Unfortunately we don't have a proper warning for that sort of thing - like "Hey, you're a spammer! An admin will be along shortly to block you!". But what you did was okay, I guess. By all rights, it probably should've gone to the Admin Noticeboard, but I'm okay with short-circuiting the process when it's obvious spam like that. (First time in a while I've seen spam on a legit article page though.) --TheRealLurlock Talk 00:44, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
Interestingly, the spam on Amelion's Debt linked to a loan site. Maybe it's a good idea to have an eye on quest articles that contain the word "debt" or on articles like Making Money - in case more spambots start to go for those keywords. --Holomay 08:23, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
Maybe - could just be random coincidence, though. About half of the spam is from loan sites (the rest being from fashion retailers). If we start seeing the fashion spam on Skyrim:Clothing, we can say there might be a pattern here... --TheRealLurlock Talk 11:55, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

Everything! The entire recent changes board was taken up by us for a little while!Excluding the spammers and like two anonymous users.--Skyrimplayer 20:41, 24 August 2012 (UTC)
