I'm a Moron[edit]

And in fact, I find roleplaying to be the best part of Oblivion; why on the face of the earth would you love deleting all the Roleplaying pages!? — Unsigned comment by Roleplayer4life (talkcontribs) on 1 May 2009

Names Page[edit]

It's cool, I see where you're coming from with the names page. Thanks for stopping me know before I got too involved.

NPC redirects[edit]

Hi, great work making the Zainna page, the map is really great! I noticed though that your new NPC redirects don't have a level or class info. I used to insert these in the redirect because we have categories for them and then the NPC shows up in them. I don't use health (except when the NPC is dead), magicka, alarm and fight in them because we don't have categories for them. Maybe I'm a bit lazy, hehe. See for example my redirect of Yapund Urgelian. I hope that you like to clutter the level and class categories like I do...

PS: By the way, it would be great if the Unneccesary NPC template could have faction info in it.Theviking 10:17, 4 May 2009 (EDT)

Thanks. They do have the class on, but I didn't put level on because it wasn't on the template instruction page and I didn't realise it was used. Eventually the template is going to be much more important, as it will essentially be used to generate the NPC sections of place pages. At that point, all the details the place pages use will need to be put on the non-relevant template. –RpehTCE 10:53, 4 May 2009 (EDT)

Popular Mods Pages[edit]

I was wondering how you and the other admins might feel about having some pages for popular (but unofficial) mods. For example I play Oblivion with Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul (OOO), and the quest direction in the mod is virtually non-existent, so I was thinking that since there have been 200 000 downloads of OOO the UESP could provide some quest pages for it as well as other popular mods. I'd be happy to contribute although I do not have the capacity to complete the pages adequately. CRM 14:41, 8 May 2009 (EDT)

The short answer is "that's fine". The long answer is "That's fine, but". See the guidelines on this page, and the discussion on the talk page that backs it up. As you'll see from that link, we already describe a few mods, and others are welcome as long as any articles meet the criteria. From what you've said so far, you seem to fail on the "Do not begin a mod page until you're ready to write an in-depth article." criterion. If you can't create the pages yourself you'll need to get other people interested before starting as stub pages will be nominated for deletion. If you think you have enough people willing to make contributions then go ahead and start writing. –RpehTCE 14:49, 8 May 2009 (EDT)

Pictures[edit]

I think you make a brilliant artist that really captures Cyrodiil's landscape. Just like to say that ,thanks to you, I can admire Cyrodiil from a different perspective. –VeltasTE 00:13, 10 May 2009 (EDT)

Thank you very much :) –RpehTCE 01:19, 10 May 2009 (EDT)

Oblivion Gates[edit]

Once you complete Find the Heir, 10 Random Oblivion Gates are supposed to appear, right? Cheers, Razorflame 01:39, 10 May 2009 (EDT)

Yes. See the notes here. –RpehTCE 01:41, 10 May 2009 (EDT)
When they say that you have a 25% chance of a gate appearing when you get to it's location, does that mean that it will just randomly open up right in front of you? D: God damn, that would scare the hell outta me, lol :D. Cheers, Razorflame 01:43, 10 May 2009 (EDT)
When you enter the cell that might contain a gate, there's a 25% chance it will actually appear. Gates are usually in the center of cells, so you won't be able to see them appearing. –RpehTCE 01:47, 10 May 2009 (EDT)
:D *whew*....saves me from a heart attack :D So if I were to leave that cell and come back if it did not open, can I get it to open, or it is a one-time thing? Razorflame 01:48, 10 May 2009 (EDT)
The former. –RpehTCE 01:49, 10 May 2009 (EDT)
Meaning it is a one time thing?  :( Razorflame 01:52, 10 May 2009 (EDT)
No. The former thing you wrote. If you leave and come back again it might re-open. –RpehTCE 01:54, 10 May 2009 (EDT)
Ok, thanks...I just removed a bunch of my save files and deleted a bunch of my mods because I'm going to continue through the game without any modifications from this point on....sure, I lost 6 hours of game time, but I know what I lost....A whole lot of questing from completing the mods' quests...so nothing too major. It'll have set me back about 4-5 levels, as well :D Razorflame 01:56, 10 May 2009 (EDT)
It set me back from Level 15 to Level 9, but I'm already Level 10 again :D Anyways, I have another question for you: Why do people refer to Oblivion as "Vanilla Oblivion"? Is that meant as some kind of derogatory statement? Razorflame 14:32, 10 May 2009 (EDT)

(unindented) I found two of the 10 random gates that opened up after completing Find the Heir. One was at the end of a long road that lead into the mountains to the west of Bruma (it led me high into the mountains), and the other one was directly west of Imperial City. I'm still hunting for the other 8 that opened up, but I'm currently doing Dagon's Shrine quest. By the way, I hope you get your items back sometime during that quest... Razorflame 14:34, 10 May 2009 (EDT)

Yes, you do. "Vanilla" in this case refers to its sense of "Lacking adornments or special features; basic or ordinary": in other words, no mods or other changes. –RpehTCE 00:21, 11 May 2009 (EDT)

Thanks[edit]

Just me again. Thanks for all the help you have provided. I probably still would be stuck if it weren't for people like you. So thanks alot!–VeltasTE 08:36, 10 May 2009 (EDT)

No problem. It's good to be able to help out. –RpehTCE 03:40, 10 May 2009 (EDT)

Nirnroot edit[edit]

Yes, I know that all Nirnroot is designated as food, however, in that particular sentence, they were talking about that specific sample of Nirnroot and how that specific sample regrows....I do not think that all of them regrow....just that one particular sample. Cheers, Razorflame 16:08, 12 May 2009 (EDT)

That's the only sample - ie, not "contained" in a plant. That's why it respawns. To say, however, that only that sample is considered food is incorrect. –RpehTCE 16:10, 12 May 2009 (EDT)
Ok, thanks for the explanation. Cheers, Razorflame 16:16, 12 May 2009 (EDT)

Generic NPC Images[edit]

I am about to go and take some images for the Vampire and Necromancer pages and just wanted to ask you a quick question. Should I go for square images like the one for normal NPCs or should I do them like the Conjurer ones? Also, if you have time, would you like to help me out? For example by doing the Necromancers? Thanks. --SerCenKing Talk 13:24, 21 May 2009 (EDT)

Square is preferable, as on the Bandit page. I doubt I'll have a chance to do the Necromancers I'm afraid, certainly not any time soon. –RpehTCE 13:32, 21 May 2009 (EDT)
Ok. No problem, though, just asking because I'm lazy. ;) --SerCenKing Talk 13:37, 21 May 2009 (EDT)

Open Letter - Response[edit]

I agree with much of what you've said, and I'll be the first to admit that I haven't been as active as I could be (ignoring for the moment that I pointed that out during my application process) but I don't think we can take all the blame.

First off, Patrollers and Admins have always worked on an "as you can" basis, and whenever people spoke of stepping down or others suggested that they should be removed, there was always a general feeling of "No, we should leave them so they can continue to help out if we need them."

Which leads into my next point: if you felt that help was needed, you should have asked before it got to a crisis point for you. In particular, posting to peoples' User pages to ensure that the request is on a page that they're (presumably) monitoring closely, as opposed to the IRC, which is very touch & go (literally) in my experience.

While I've always preferred to stick to the older unpatrolled edits, the ones that often need CS investigation and therefore time and effort to confirm, I've been pleasantly surprised at how few of those there generally were whenever I checked and I thought that things were generally being handled and there were no major backlogs. Perhaps you were doing too good of a job of handling everything yourself, giving the false impression that all was well.

Also, I can't speak for everybody, but for myself, I rarely use the game maps apart from those on quest pages (and not often for those), and none of the "real" map pages are in my watchlist, so I've been entirely oblivious to any discussions happening there. Perhaps other Patrollers and Admins are in the same boat, where we're so familiar with the game by this point that discussions about the maps get missed.

As far as solutions go, I think perhaps it's time for a round of Admin and Patroller nominations. Patrollers should be easy enough to find, I think, though it's possible we may have to include some who are a little less skilled at it than others, but can at least take the easier patrols off our hands. Admins may be more of a challenge, however. I certainly don't feel I have the knowledge nor the energy to be a proper administrator, and there are very few whom I've seen who do. But perhaps the three currently-active or semi-active admins (you, Nephele, and GuildKnight last I checked) should have a discussion about who would be up to the job, or could be brought up to that level, and "recruit", for lack of a better word.

Anyway, I think that about wraps up my thoughts on the matter. I'm actually coming to the conclusion of a game of Oblivion which, perversely, makes it easier to patrol if necessary (since you can't reliably swap out of Oblivion). I can't promise to do a lot of work, but I can certainly do more than I have been. Hopefully now that you've mentioned the problem in a more-visible forum, others will also step up to the plate. If not, well, we'll have to see what that means for UESP in the long run. Perhaps it means that this'll become an unmoderated or minimally-moderated wiki. Who knows? But one way or the other, it will continue in the immediate future—of that I have no doubt. --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 19:15, 26 May 2009 (EDT)

Template Page[edit]

After talking with Ratwar and after a look over by SerCenKing and Krusty, I have created a page for the frequently used templates (found here) in a sandbox. I was wanting to know if I can have the go-ahead to make it an actual page. If so, what is the correct namespace to use? UESPWiki? Thanks in advance. :) --Mr. Oblivion(T-C) 14:20, 27 May 2009 (EDT)

At the moment, I'm not taking any kind of administrative decision (see my user page) so I'll leave it to Nephele, Ratwar, and GuildKnight (the active-ish admins) to make that call. –RpehTCE 15:01, 27 May 2009 (EDT)
Okay, thank you. --Mr. Oblivion(T-C) 15:58, 27 May 2009 (EDT)
