Thank you[edit]

I just want to say thank you for dealing with (and answering to) people who were asking about the Dark Lord page in the 'roleplaying' section. When I made the page, I didn't realise how many people would have problems or ask questions. So I just want to say thank you for helping them and helping me! — Unsigned comment by 89.241.201.164 (talk)

No problem. Always ready to lend a hand! —RpehTCE 05:00, 2 January 2008 (EST)

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for the warm welcome :) I have found this site to be very informative. — Unsigned comment by Carnifex09 (talkcontribs)

It's quite good, isn't it? :) I hope you continue to enjoy it. —RpehTCE 01:44, 3 January 2008 (EST)

I Need To Know How To Make The NPC Chart[edit]

I Know I Have Asked GuildKnight, But Maybe You Could Help Me. How Do You Make The NPC Chart, I'm A NOOB.... --Rameiz 11:41, 6 January 2008 (EST)

I'm not sure what you mean... NPC Chart? —RpehTCE 11:47, 6 January 2008 (EST)

Do you mean the chart that shows their home town, class, health etc....?Volanaro 13:34, 8 January 2008 (EST)

Ah yes. If you mean one like I have on my user page, feel free to pinch the code or see NPC Summary. –RpehTCE 14:00, 8 January 2008 (EST)

Pictures too dark ?[edit]

That's kind of funny that as soon as I insert a picture, two people stop by and change the lumiscence of it. Can you please tell me what criteria you use to determine how light or dark a picture is supposed to be ? I already applied a gamma of 2.0 to my picture and it made a fairly nice impression. - Adjego 16:29, 6 January 2008 (EST)

Speaking as the second person who changed the luminscence, when I looked at the original image, it was nearly black on my monitor. Unfortunately, not all monitors have the same contrast depth, so we try to keep images relatively high-contrast in order to work the best for all viewers. Screenshots directly out of the game are almost invariably too dark, especially indoor shots. What I generally do is take the image into Photoshop and run an auto-levels on it before posting, though in this case I tweaked the levels manually in order to squeeze some more contrast out of it. (Rpeh: Your version was a little too washed out in my opinion. Though I might have left it if I hadn't already finished tweaking my version before I saw that you uploaded yours.) If you don't have Photoshop, there are various lower-end programs that can do that sort of thing. I recommend The GIMP, which has many of the more advanced features of Photoshop, but has the benefit of being FREE. (I find Photoshop easier to work with, but $800US is a bit beyond many people's budgets.) Feel free to ask me, Rpeh, or any of the other Artists on the site if you have any other questions. --TheRealLurlock Talk 17:49, 6 January 2008 (EST)
This is the problem with trying to get images looking perfect on all monitors - what works on one won't work on another. The original definitely appeared too dark, Lurlock's version is okay but I'm surprised mine was too light as I used the same settings as I usually do. I guess it's just one of those things. —RpehTCE 01:59, 7 January 2008 (EST)
It wasn't bad, honestly. Just I'd already done one at the same time as you, and I thought mine was better. Brightness isn't as important as contrast, I've found. A higher contrast image should look good on most monitors, whereas a low-contrast image will generally be either too bright or too dark depending on the screen. As I said, I wouldn't have replaced the image if I hadn't already done one myself at the same time, though. --TheRealLurlock Talk 15:02, 8 January 2008 (EST)
Can you please have a look at Bloodmoon:Hircine's_Aspect_of_Strength, Bloodmoon:Hircine's_Aspect_of_Speed and Bloodmoon:Hircine's_Aspect_of_Guile, and tell me if these picture are good enough in brightness and contrast ? I'm now using 'The Gimp' since my old tool wasn't able to stretch the colour room. Maybe we should set up a small page for Gimp users to explain the steps to produce good pictures from screenshots... --Adjego 13:33, 4 February 2008 (EST)
They look great! If you want to add some information to the Tips section of Help:Images that'd be great. We could probably use a package-specific set of tips. –RpehTCE 13:39, 4 February 2008 (EST)
Images look fine here, too, at least in terms of contrast-range. Only complaint I have is that the Guile aspect appears to float a bit, might be better if you turned on shadows. Also, the Speed aspect is facing the wall, kind of a weird pose. But really, I may be just being overly picky there. --TheRealLurlock Talk 13:43, 4 February 2008 (EST)
Ok you are right, I always tend to forget something, very often the Crosshair, but never bothered to activate shadows. I'll need to remember that. The Speed aspect was a bit difficult to take because, well, of its high speed. I made a number of shots and all looked a bit odd. This one is nice because you can actually see the outline of the creature. --Adjego 15:02, 4 February 2008 (EST)

I'll just uh...[edit]

...Let you handle the vandalism then :P Vanguard 08:08, 8 January 2008 (EST)

Thanks for the help! Administrators can usually do it faster than anybody else because we can revert in one click rather than having to undo, but it's always good to have assistance! –RpehTCE 08:17, 8 January 2008 (EST)
If I see it I will certainly assist. Vanguard 08:47, 8 January 2008 (EST)

Mages Guild Edit[edit]

You reverted my change on the Lore: Mages Guild article. Might I ask why, please? Robed Dawnbringer 12:55, 11 January 2008 (EST)

Of course! My edit summary was "information is better found through the links", which is perhaps a little brief but then we only get limited space when doing a revert. I meant that the information you added was already available on the page in the Oblivion namespace to which there was already a link and that it shouldn't be duplicated. The main reason is that the Tamriel namespace is for general information rather than the specific. It's the sort of place where you'd mention that there is a council but not the members.
Please rest assured that my undo of your edit in no way implies that there was anything wrong with it factually or grammatically! As our editing guide says, "Even if your edit is completely undone, it does not mean that the edit was considered to be a "bad edit"". Please keep making good edits and you'll find the overwhelming majority don't get changed at all.
Lastly, thanks for taking the time to ask. There are several editors who could learn from your example! –RpehTCE 13:20, 11 January 2008 (EST)

The thing is it wasn't available on the Oblivion page - not until I added it anyway. But thank you for your prompt and polite response. Much obliged to you, sir. Robed Dawnbringer 14:15, 11 January 2008 (EST)

Warm Welcome[edit]

Odd.bodThanks for the welcome. I wasn't expecting that sisn'e it's my first day here!

Yes, thank you -Twentyfists 18:51, 16 January 2008 (EST)

Thank you.[edit]

Thanks a ton for the warm welcome, Rpeh. I don't think I need a mentor, but if I have any questions, I'll contact you or one of the others. Have yourself a nice day! Muthsera 10:38, 15 January 2008 (EST)

Thanks[edit]

... for welcome. I even forgot about that old comment by myself. And yes, I'm enjoying uesp, was using it back in times of morrowind and daggerfall when it wasn't even wiki yet (hosted on m0use.net). I'll try to contribute as much as I can, was finding small thing here and there from time to time but seems I wasn't encouraged enough to commit them, I'll try to get better in the future :-) Havner 17:28, 15 January 2008 (EST)

http://www.uesp.net/morrow/espmor.shtml Good old times :-D Please don't you ever remove that. Havner 17:40, 15 January 2008 (EST)

Congratulations...[edit]

... you've just been made a cartographer :) Since you probably have no idea what that means, you may want to check out these two pages: User:Daveh/Map and User:Daveh/SiMap. Now that you're a cartographer, you should see a tool that allows you to edit the markers displayed on the map (previously, without your new permissions, the page should have just appeared to be blank). You can use search to pull up any location in the list, then click "edit" to make that location's info show up in the edit box at the bottom. Modify as needed! (Although keep in mind that there are no convenient wiki-style "undo" features). --NepheleTalk 19:29, 15 January 2008 (EST)

I shall be careful, I promise. At the moment I'm intrigued by the way a tag can be used to introduce content like that! –RpehTCE 04:58, 16 January 2008 (EST)

Questions[edit]

I am thinking of purchasing Oblivion for the PC, as I have it for XBOX and I hate working around bugs on the XBOX. Control isn't an issue, as I have a Logitech Chillstream controller shaped like an XBOX 360 Controller.

  1. Do I have to pay for plugins like Horse Armour and Knights of the Nine?
  2. If I get the game, what mods should I install? I've heard of an upgrade mod to the arena to make it tougher if you find it easy, as well as a nudity patch/mod (woot) and even something to fix the levelling issues and the armour scaling or whatever you call it thing where certain armour appears at certain levels.

Thanks for helping if you can, I figured I'd ask you because you seem to be a genius. Cheers! ImmortalKaine 06:01, 18 January 2008 (EST)

As Oscar Levant remarked, there's a fine line between genius and insanity... Yes, you have to pay for those plugins. You can buy most of them on disk as part of the KotN expansion or all of them (except SI) are available for (bought) download from Bethesda. Shivering Isles must bought separately though.
As far as mods are concerned, it's entirely down to the player. The nudity one is rather poor though: I must confess to having tried it once and being more amused by it than anything else. The leveling one you mean is probably OOO - Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul, which I've never tried but hear is good or Quest Award Leveling, ditto. I keep meaning to put a list of the mods I use up on my user page, but from the top 100 on Tes Nexus, I use:
  • Adonnays Elven Weaponry - a decent array of reasonably-balanced weaponry.
  • Clocks of Cyrodiil - adds clocks to various cities and buildings. Very pretty!
  • Bravil Sea Domes - a new, rather unusual, house.
  • Kafeis Armored Circlets - an alternative set of headgear
  • Kafeis Better Amulet Replacer - better amulet graphics
  • Kafeis Better Ring Replacer - better ring graphics
  • Thievery in the Imperial City - an array of interesting quests for thieves
  • ArmoryLab - bit of a cheat, an armory, laboratory and storage area attached to every buyable house.
  • Bank of Cyrodiil - get interest on your money
  • Natural Environments - makes things even prettier than normal
Plus the two you really can't do without
  • Unofficial Oblivion Patch - fixes thousands of bugs in the game
  • Oblivion mod manager - helps keep all your other mods in check
There are a lot of good mods out there. Enjoy yourself! –RpehTCE 06:41, 18 January 2008 (EST)
Heh, just bought Oblivion GotY edition for the PC. 3 <censored> discs!. Came with KotN and SI. Just wondering.....did it also come with all plugins as well, because I honestly don't know? 24.150.100.43 11:45, 18 January 2008 (EST)(ImmortalKaine, I'm at a friends house).
Also, can you link me to the website where I can download the mods? ImmortalKaine 11:46, 18 January 2008 (EST) (ImmortalKaine IP)
ARGH! Everytime I run the game and press Play to play it, it gives me that Microsoft error thing with the "Send" and "Don't Send". What do I do?!!! I spent $60!! ImmortalKaine 11:52, 18 January 2008 (EST)
I'm wondering if maybe it has to do with me not having downloaded any patches..... ImmortalKaine 12:02, 18 January 2008 (EST)
Nevermind. Did a DXDiag, turns out my laptop won't run it. Gotta take it back -.- ImmortalKaine 12:57, 18 January 2008 (EST)
Sorry to hear that. The best mods site around is TesNexus - see Links for more. –RpehTCE 13:42, 18 January 2008 (EST)

Thank you[edit]

It's really nice to be welcomed: Thanks! I've been using this site since the pre-wiki era and felt it was time to make some contributions to the community. Quill 18:27, 18 January 2008 (EST)

Yet another thank you for your welcome[edit]

Ditto. Thank you for your warm welcome, I hope staying around a bit and finding the time to contribute :) --Outlyer 23:20, 19 January 2008 (EST)

Woops![edit]

Lol I didn't realise the thing about Peke Utchoo. I am standing my ground, opposing you in the fight for Roleplayings' nomination. That doesn't mean we can't be friends right? Of course! And good luck in the battle :-) –RpehTCE 04:33, 21 January 2008 (EST)

Glad to be Back![edit]

Not that I was 100% gone; I was sorta about and around... Anyway, I'm gonna finish the Guild's Knight story, then maybe play with characterization of who I already have. Work less on introductions, and do a serious story. In other news, yeah, I did sorta want to take a step away, but I wouldn't have minded a quick note. Was nice to get to know Guildknight outside of the work...Love you, Robi! Somercy 10:43, 23 January 2008 (EST)

Re: Oblivion Spell Making talk page[edit]

Hey there, just wanna get your comment on this. I added a section to my spell calculator spreadsheet at the top of the Oblivion_Talk:Spell_Making page a short while ago. While you were archiving, you moved it down in another section. I originally put it up there to make it visible. I know it doesn't quite fit the proper style of a talk page, but I figured that it wouldn't be that big an issue, putting it up top. Is there anything against me putting the notice for my spreadsheet at the top, before the Contents? I think that it'd be beneficial at the top; and then it's also a Talk page, so rules can probably be a bit more lax. Your thoughts? Ong elvin 02:39, 24 January 2008 (EST)

The trouble with having things in a fixed spot on the talk page is that it's almost turning them into part of the article. Still, if you want to put it back I won't object. –RpehTCE 05:53, 24 January 2008 (EST)
Ah, yes, I can see what you mean. Adding the notice as it is to an article is pretty much out of the question though, so I was left with inserting a link to my own userpage (which I've also done) or putting it in the talk page. Obviously it's gotta be noticeable somewhat on the talk page; if it's in one of the discussions, people are likely to miss it. Thanks for not objecting. I'll go and put it back up top then, although I'll put it as a discussion point instead. :) Ong elvin 17:57, 24 January 2008 (EST)

Image for Uvirith's Grave.[edit]

I have seen on the Uvirith's Grave page that it is flagged as needing an image. I have a few images that may be helpful for this. If you could take a look at them and put them on the page then I would be satisfied. I will help out as much as I can around the website so if you need any images in paticular then just ask me.

Here are some of the Uvirith's Grave images:

I hope those are helpful.

--Matthewest 22:23, 25 January 2008 (EST)

EDIT: Woops I didn't know it would show up with the actual image. How can I shrink it down to avoid spamming your talk page?

--Matthewest 22:25, 25 January 2008 (EST)

Nice screenshots! They are appreciated. Good Job. --Playjex 22:32, 25 January 2008 (EST)
Not to toot my own (or anybody else's) horn here, but this thread from the official forum should give some insight as to where those screenies came from. -KJR1012 13:40, 27 January 2008 (EST)
Thanks for the heads up on the screenshot origins, KJR1012. That forum thread really isn't one that should have been started, and I feel like it really misrepresents what's going on at UESP. KJR1012, if you would like to upload one of the Uvirith's Grave images that you created to the site, you can find out how to do so at Help:Images. Otherwise, the images from that thread are unlikely to be used on the site, because we prefer to have the person who creates the screenshot upload it himself/herself (and until you pointed out the image origin, I wasn't aware that Matthewest was just posting links to images created by other people). --NepheleTalk 17:10, 27 January 2008 (EST)
That would be best if KJR1O12 uploaded those files himself. I forgot to mention he was the one that gave the last 3 ones. I will never post a forum thread again regarding a need of images. I just didn't have an image without the telvanni tower. I don't think I can help much because I am an Xbox 360 user. Sorry for everybodies confusion and misunderstandings... --Matthewest 18:56, 28 January 2008 (EST)

And Yet Another Thank You[edit]

Thanks for the welcome, and the hint for my user page! KJR1012 07:20, 27 January 2008 (EST)

Uvirith's Grave Images....[edit]

I hope you liked those images but the first two had broken links and they weren't that good anyway. As for myself, I cannot decide on which one either. I will ask my source if he can send me the raw file in email and I can upload it. I have suggested he upload them himself but I haven't gotten a reply yet. I cannot myself upload them because I have a stronghold in the way.

--Matthewest 18:49, 28 January 2008 (EST)

He already joined and uploaded one of the files himself (see this). Thanks. –RpehTCE 01:43, 29 January 2008 (EST)
