Welcome and Question[edit]

Hello! Welcome to the wiki. I hope you enjoy using the site and find the information on it useful. If you decide you want to help improve any of our pages, we're always welcoming to new editors so feel free. You might want to look at our Getting Started page for some tips on how to begin, then play in our Sandbox for a while to practice. If you need any help or advice, please ask one of our mentors.

If you have specific questions about creating a userpage, I'd be glad to help answer them. Basically, it's your place to tell us about yourself and what you like to do in the TES games. Take a look at a few other users' pages and start from there. Enjoy! –RpehTCE 13:29, 5 April 2009 (EDT)

Also, if you'd like to help with documenting NPC inventories, it might help to first read through some of the information about the Oblivion NPC Redesign Project, or at least look at some examples of pages that have already been revamped for the project (this category lists all of the NPCs whose inventories have been written). In particular, the inventories should be part of the standard text; links to the items are also helpful.
However, the biggest problem with trying to document inventories is understanding which items in the inventory are random and which items are fixed. Based on our style guide, information should only be included in articles if it is true for all readers. Therefore, stating that Sigrid carries 6 gold is incorrect: the amount of gold she carries is random (not to mention that all gold amounts are also glitched making the amounts even more unpredictable). Most readers will not find 6 gold on Sigrid; high level characters will always find more than 6 gold. If the information is left on the article, other readers will inevitably complain that the information is false, or start edit wars over the amount -- false information is worse than no information. Gold isn't the only item that can be random. Weapons and armor are frequently leveled, some NPCs have random clothing, etc. If you want advice on how to get reliable inventories based solely on playing the game, you may want to ask Krusty for tips -- he's worked out a system, but I think it involves a lot of repetition and patience ;) --NepheleTalk 16:17, 5 April 2009 (EDT)
